Salazars advance
in Quito Qualifying

Juan-Carlos Santacruz reports

With a deep game and handling the altitude well, Welshman Jethro Binns was the first player to enter the main draw after defeating the Mexican Arturo Castillo in strtaight games.

Cesar Salazar managed to win over the Argentinean Tapiz after playing a precise and focused game and become the second qualifier to enter the main draw. Tapiz, who despite playing a level game couldn’t overcome the strength of the Mexican who took control of the match after losing the first game.

With incredible forcefulness and definition the Mexican Arturo Salazar defeated his compatriot Salvador Martinez, who could never find a way to solve the game strategy proposed by Salazar, who joined his brother in the main draw.

The best match of the night allowed the Colombian Rodrigo Torres to claim the last spot to the main draw, coming from two games down to beat Max Lee. The games were tight, with great shots and continuous applauses by the tribune summed up an emotive match.
