Suchde takes St Louis title

The first PSA champion of 2008 was crowned in a new Super Satellite event at the Regions Racket Club in St Louis, with eighth-seeded Indian Siddarth Suchde taking the title.

In the morning's semi-finals Suchde put out top seed Tony James in straight games, and in the final met unseeded Mexican teenager Cesar Salazar, who had himself beaten second seed Wade Johnstone.

In the final Suchde kept up his record of not dropping a game as he beat the youngster 11/9, 11/6, 11/4 in 50 minutes.

PSA Season under way in St Louis

The first PSA champion of 2008 will be crowned in a new Super Satellite event at the Regions Racket Club in St Louis, with seeding predicting an all-Australian final between Tony James and Wade Johnstone, both US-based.

Tournament organiser Ryan Donegan is seeded three, while St Louis based pro Mike Puertas (who is providing the photos) defied the years to come through qualifying.

"A bit of inexperience from Wael, I would not like to play him in a few years - what are they feeding these kids in Egypt ???"

Puertas in St Louis upset

A stunning upset for 39-year-old Mike Puertas at the Regions Club, as the veteran overcame a 21-year age gap to oust qualifying second seed Tyler Hamilton in straight games.

Local club champion Preston Amos, victorious in the solitary first round match earlier in the day, couldn't make it to the main draw as he went down to Canadian Matthew Serediak. England's Joe Millman progressed to the main draw at the expense of Scott Denne who, like Puertas, coaches in St Louis.

The final match of the day saw another upset as Bernie Reid despatched qualifying second seed Armando Qlguin in three games.
