Eggheads Squash England Girls

England's top five squash players took on the Eggheads on BBC2 tonight, but sadly proved no match for the UK's quiz maestros. With the Eggheads on an unbeaten run of 55 shows, "Squash the Egg" stood to win £56,000 had they won tonight.

The head-to-head rounds didn't go well for the girls. Alison lost 2-0 to Daphne on food and drink and they went 2-0 down as Vicky lost on an Entertainment category tie-break to Judith. Jenny was no match for CJ on History, and when Laura took on Kevin [bad move, Kevin never gets anything wrong] on Arts, it meant Tania was left to face all five Eggheads in the deciding General Knowledge round.

She would surely have beaten them in a five-on-one squash challenge, but was on a no-hoper in this format (which explains why when asked what she would do with the money should she win, she said she'd keep it all herself!).

So no £56,000 for the girls, but maybe host Dermot's pleas for squash to be included in the Olympics will strike a chord somewhere ...

'These five people are amongst the greatest quiz players in Britain. Together they make up the Eggheads, arguably the most formidable quiz team in the country.

The question is: can they be beaten?'

England Girls to take
on the Eggheads ...

Tune in tonight - Monday 3rd September - to BBC2 at 6pm to see five England Squash Internationals take on Britain's top quiz players in Eggheads.

The Eggheads take on a challenger team each programme, with £1,000 on offer which rolls over to the next show. They are currently on their longest-ever unbeaten run, and the England girls stand to win £56,000 should they beat the Eggheads.

They're European and World Team Champions on court,  but how will Tania Bailey, Vicky Botwright, Jenny Duncalf,  Laura Lengthorn and Alison Waters do against the Eggheads .... tune in tonight!

Chris Hughes:
winner of Mastermind, International Mastermind and former Brain of Britain.

Daphne Fowler: winner of Fifteen to One, Brain of Britain and Going for Gold.

CJ De Mooi:
winner of BrainTeaser, 100% and The Weakest Link as well as having been Mensa chess champion.

Kevin Ashman:
