Beddoes bursts through in Chicago
England's Emma Beddoes claimed one of the best results of her career
when she upset fourth seed Aisling Blake in the quarter-finals
to win an unexpected place in the last four at the University Club
of Chicago.
Fifth seed Beddoes, the 22-year-old world No54 from Leamington Spa
in Warwickshire, took just three games to defeat her Irish opponent
- ranked more than 20 places higher, and top seed Samantha Teran now
awaits Beddoes after the Mexican beat sixth-seeded Canadian Tara
Mullins.
Latasha Khan led US interest into the semi-finals with a comfortable
win over No8 seed Kirsty McPhee. The second seed from Seattle now
takes on Louise Crome after the third seed from New Zealand defeated
Dutch opponent Karen Kronemeyer.
Teran & Khan on course for final showdown in Windy City
Top seeds Samantha Teran and Latasha Khan are on course to meet in a
WISPA final for the second time this year after despatching their
first round opponents at the University Club of Chicago.
Teran, the favourite from Mexico, crushed Argentinean qualifier
Fernanda Rocha in the first round before beating Tara Mullins in
straight games in the quarter-finals. Khan, the second seed from
Seattle, defeated Tina Rix of England in the first round and another
Englishwoman, Kirsty McPhee, in the quarters..
When the pair last met, in the Liberty Bell Open climax in
Philadelphia in January, it took Teran exactly two hours to quash
Khan to win her eighth Tour title. |
