Asian Junior and Masters Championships 2010
07-10 July, Colombo, Sri Lanka
Dixit & Dipika take the junior titles
Cyrus Poncha reports

Ravi Dixit created history today by becoming the first Indian male to win an Asian Squash title at the Asian Junior Individual Championship held at Colombo, Sri Lanka Ravi continues his winning streak after winning the Malaysian Junior Open earlier last month.

Making this a historical day Dipika Pallikal too lifted the junior women’s crown defeating 2nd seed Low Wee Nee of Malaysia 11-8, 12-10, 10-12, 11-8. Dipika but for a brief lapse in concentration had the match very much in control. Dipika also won the u15 crown four years ago making her the only player to win both the u15 and u19 title at the Asian Championships.

Ravi defeated Waqas Mehboob from Pakistan making this an historic double for Indian squash. Trailing by two games and with a match ball against him, Ravi who seemed nervous clawed his way back playing aggressive in the third game and continued it in the fourth.

The fifth game was neck and neck at 9-9, with both player keeping the ball in play. Waqas eventually hit the tin and Ravi finished the final point
with a forehand drive winner.
