BSPA Boston Open 2010
09-12 December, Lincolnshire

Boston Open 2009

the BSPA minisite will be available at the weekend

Handley and Atkinson top Boston draws

May I extend a warm welcome once again to a chilly Lincolnshire for the Boston Open. As 2010 draws to a close the event remains the longest running event on the BSPA tour – this being its 14th year.

The usual preparations have taken place for the Open over the course of the last few weeks. The courts have been given a touch up, the lights re-fitted, the programmes put to print and the prizes are ready. Encouragingly, the level of sponsorship is one of the highest since 1997 which is a tribute to the competition’s sustainability.

As ever the last tournament on the tour before Christmas has attracted some of the top talents from across the UK. Indeed, last year’s champion Andy Whipp returns for his third year in four as #2 seed. Tournament regular Scott Handley takes up the mantle of top men’s seed after a previous best in Boston of runner-up to Simon Parke in 2006.

In the women’s event world #8 Vanessa Atkinson heads the draw after flying back from the women’s world team championship in New Zealand. World #25 and 2008 finalist Emma Beddoes is Vanessa’s closest challenger on paper. Brogan Lane will face the second seed after suffering defeat to Tania Bailey in the competition last year.

Back to the men and Rory Pennell from Essex is a ¾ seed along with world #85 James Snell. The 5/8 seeds include the up-and-coming Adil Maqbool, Obaid J. Khan, Michael Wood and James Jacobsen, who is set to contest the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

The countdown to Friday starts here!
