Squash Junkie 2009
13-16 August, Amsterdam

Gold for the Dutch at Junkie 14

Squash heroes took the title on Sunday beating english newcomers blood sweat and beers 4-2 in the final.

The young dutch side were aided by american professional Gilly lane and proved to be a solid oufit. Gilly was supported by dutch team members Sander kock, Sebastian Weenink and Martijn Kock. Their girls were dutch u17 juniors Ilona and Laura Lagerweij .

Despite an heroic effort from Jonathan Harford beating Weenink in testing conditions Jaymie Haycocks’ team struggled to find form on the last day of the challenging event.

The four days of competition had quite some highlights both on the court and off. English legend Robert Forde treated spectators to a squash masterclass narrowly going down to Martijn Kock 11-9 in the fifth game on saturday afternoon’s semi final.

Playing for Nic Birt’’s Cardiff dragons, despite a 33 year age gap Forde pushed 22 year old Kock all the way with his tactically immaculate game. It was brilliant stuff.

A big thanks to all the characters who made the weekend so memorable. See you at 15 next year.

24 teams from Holland, Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Slovenia will battle for the title.

The tournament is a mix of top squash and top entertainment. A number of PSA and WISPA stars will head up the title contenders but it will be a test of stamina on court on the dancefloor and at the bar which will determine the outcome of the competition.
