Kish Persian Gulf Cup 2014

Danish does it again in Kish

Pakistan’s Danish Atlas Khan recorded his second successive PSA over his older brother Aamir Atlas Khan when he toppled the defending champion in the final of the Kish Persian Gulf Cup, to reclaim the title he first won at the Olympic Squash Complex in Kish Island, Iran, three years ago.

Both Peshawar-based players survived five-game semi-finals to set up the predicted climax between the event’s top two seeds, and the final was the Khan brothers’ sixth PSA clash – and the second in the event - with Aamir successful in the first four.

But after recording his first senior sibling success in the CAS International on home soil last September, World No.72 Danish  proved that it was no fluke when he beat Aamir, a former World No.14, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 in 70 minutes.

"We both train together and last night played 3-2 but again today was was such a long match and he was defending champion and I won this event two year ago and lost to Aamir last year!

"We are happy with our performance and I am happy here in Kish island, it is such a beautiful island good weather, and personally thanks to Kish free zone and Kish sports center for this event.

"I am very happy back here in Kish island and with my performance, but Danish played very well.

"Thanks to Kish sports center and Kish free zone organizing Persian Gulf Cup in such a beautiful venue."

Khans survive in Kish

Top seeded Pakistani brothers Danish Atlas Khan and Aamir Atlas Khan both survived five-game semi-finals in Kish Island, Iran, to set up a family final in the PSA $6k Persian Gulf Cup.

Danish, 20, took 88 minutes to see off Kuwaiti fourth seed Yosif Nizar Saleh, while Aamir, 23 , was twice behind before beating England's Youssef Abdalla, the sixth seed.

Abdalla had his chances: "Being a game up and up 9-5 up in 2nd will haunt me for years," he tweeted.

The final will be the pair's sixth meeting in PSA events, with Danish recording his first win in the last match, the CAS International last September.
