13-Nov, Final:
Gordon 'Trumps' McCue in Ottawa
Heather Wallace reports

USA's Christopher Gordon lifted the 2016 GoodLife Open title in Ottawa today beating Canada's Michael McCue in a highly entertaining match.

The first game was a close call with both players hitting some fantastic outright winners. Christopher edged it 11-9. In the second game Christopher pressed up high on the T, really pressuring Michael with his volleys. He was in control in the second game, taking it 11-6.

All credit to Michael in the third, he tightened up his game with more patient play, setting up his opportunity to cut the ball in short stretching Christopher, taking a 5-0 lead. Christopher however was moving well & got back into the 3rd game, forcing Michael to probably to hit his short shots a little finer & clipping the tin as a result.

Christopher started to look in control, however Michael with the Canadian crowd urging him on managed to pull out the game 11-9. In the fourth game, Christopher got out in the lead quickly, he was so fast on his forehand getting his racquet onto the ball, volleying the ball for winners.

Michael again came back with tighter play to push Gordon, however fell just short, losing 11-9 & the match.

Afterwards Mike McCue said: "this was the best I have ever played, I am starting to believe & play positively."

Chris was gracious in victory: "Michael pushed me really hard today, I had to work for the win, a really enjoyable match."

12-Nov, Semis:
McCue on fire in Ottawa
Heather Wallace reports

Mike McCue was on fire today as he upset No. 2 seed Henrik Mustonen to advance to the final of the GoodLife Open.

I have watched Michael many times over the past few years & today was the first time I have seen that focused look in his eyes of sticking to his game plan, he was very impressive.

He had it all today, great defense switching to attack, making very few errors. He set up the rallies well & attacked the short shots taking the ball really early leaving Henrik frozen. What really hurt Henrik in the third & fourth games was Michael's working boast to the front left. Henrik was unable to read them & had no answer to them leaving him open to Mike's attack if he did get to them.

After the match Michael had this to say: "I managed to stick to my game plan, something I am trying to do a better job of. I sensed Henrik was slow moving up, especially to the front left off my boasts, so I kept firing them in. This is my first 10K final, so am looking forward to it, I have nothing to lose!"

In the second semi final Chris Gordon upholds his No. 1 seeding with a relatively comfortable win over peter Creed.

Christopher after the match had this to say: "I was happy I was able to back up yesterday's match which was mentally draining. Today I was relaxed & really enjoyed my squash. I was on the ball sharply & hit some great short volleys."
11-Nov, Quarters:
McCue gets first win over Delierre
Heather Wallace reports

Quarter-finals day saw the battle of the remaining Canadians in the GoodLIfe Open.

Mike McCue took his chance & earned his first victory over Shawn Delliere in tournament play. Michael stepped on court looking really focused & calm. Michael knew that Shawn had a slight hamstring injury & took advantage of it by pushing him short & then back. Shawn was unable to push back on his right leg & change direction. As a result Michael was very steady & Shawn was forced into trying to hit too many winners which resulted in uncharacteristic errors.

Afterwards Michael said "This was an edgy match for myself, even though Shawn was struggling with an injury I knew he would be going for it. Overall I felt confident & am happy to get the first win over him."

Henrick Mustonen had a comfortable win over Joe Green after he got off to a slow start in the first game, coming back from 6-10 down to win 12-10. After that Henrick totally dominated the match.  (

Peter Creed was also in fine form this evening taking out Martin Knight in straight sets. Peter was very clinical tonight, playing patiently, creating the opening & then going in for the kill.

The last match of the night was a very physical affair with Christopher Gordon winning in a close 5 setter over Christopher Binnie. Gordon did the better job of keeping his composure in some of the tight situations, especially after dropping the close fourth game. Binnie hit a couple of errors at crucial times in the fifth game, for Gordon to edge out the win.

Gordon afterwards "I am very happy to get through that match, I held it together even after giving up the opportunity to end it in the fourth game."
