Pontefract Vanquish Europe

Terry Dudley reports

The adventure began in Rotterdam in 1992 losing in the final and Malmo was our eighth championship and our fifth final in a row. Our previous win was in Odessa in 2003.

Over the years, many players have been involved - including the legendary Sarah Fitzgerald - but all of the teams have had a strong base of home grown players through the Pontefract coaching systems.

Terry Dudley "Some things never change - I've managed the team from Rotterdam to Malmo and the famous (or infamous!) Pontefract support never waver or lack in numbers." Terry Dudley
Pontefract Team Manager

Sweet Success

Success was all the sweeter this time because the young, talented side were all u19 internationals and all totally home grown. Lauren and Kirsty are local girls, Becky (Manchester), Deon (Hull) and Sarah (Newcastle) have got long associations with Pontefract.

"The week was tremendous. I enjoyed every minute of it. Just being in Malmo and playing a part in the whole experience was superb for me. I think the Girls will want me there every year now; I have been to two finals and won them both. I'm their lucky mascot." James Vause
Lucky Mascot!

The 3-0 victories belie the closeness and excitement of it all and Becky lived dangerously indeed. Having the intensity increased the pleasure of victory even if it may have taken a few years off my life. Coaches and managers need success to carry them forward, to recharge batteries and this win will certainly add a few years to my managerial life, unless Mick sacks me!

"A fabulous week, the host club were fantastic. The girls upped the blood pressure in the final but all came good. Amazing!. Roll on next year." Chez Lonsdale
Number 1 supporter?
Kirsty McPhee "What emotion, after the huge disappointment in Paderbourne when we lost in the final to such elation and joy to win here in Malmo."

"Two tough matches both played in fine spirits, Lauren and Becky got us through the semi and I managed to get us in a winning position in the final before Becky took us on that rollercoaster ride."

"I must give loads of credit to both Finanz services Hofsport and L'Hermine de Renns."

"We owed the club, we owed our fantastic travelling supporters, we owed Terry and most off all we owed ourselves this win."

Kirsty McPhee
Pontefract Ladies Captain
Lauren Siddall "The whole week was fantastic, one of the best Ive ever been to, mainly due to such a great following of supporters from Pontefract, who created the magnificent atmosphere."

"To win the European Club Championship with a home grown team and no players bought in makes the win even better - I'm ecstatic about winning!! "
