Tenille
Swartz has won her first WISPA title of her career. The 19-year old South
African proved the strongest in Hoofddorp during the Meersquash Open 2006.
In the final Swartz controlled the tired looking Manuela Manetta from
start to finish with her fighting mentality and great drop shots. After 33
minutes of squash Tenille Swartz claimed the first tournament title of her
career, a victory which will take the the Dutch based player from her
current position of 134 towards a spot in the world's top 80.

12-Nov, Semis:
Manetta & Swartz

Margriet Huisman went down fighting in an entertaining and high quality

The Italian player, ranked 39 in the world, kept her composure well on the
big points against the crowd favourite and moved into her first ever WISPA
final.
In the final Manetta will face South African Tenille Swartz who
caused yet another upset as the 19-year old qualifier defeated Elise Ng in
straight games. Swartz, who only started her professional career two
months ago, will also appear in her first WISPA final.

Margriet Huisman has
reached the semi finals of the Meersquash Open 2006. The 22-year old Dutch
player beat her higher ranked compatriot Orla Noom after 63 minutes. In a
evenly contested match Huisman proved a little fitter than Noom.
Tomorrow Huisman will face Manuela Manetta from Italy in the semi
finals after Manetta had no problem in dispatching Danielle Schumann of
Germany.

Schumann & Manetta
In the upper half of the draw young South African Tenille Swartz
caused a huge upset. The 19-year old South African beat top seed Louise
Crome in five games. Swartz took a 2-0 lead, but saw the Kiwi level at 2
all. In the deciding game Swartz kept her nerves to clinch her first ever
semi final spot in a WISPA event.
In the semis she will face fifth seeded Elise Ng, who surprisingly
beat Aisling Blake in four games.

11-Nov, Quarters:
Huisman and Noom through
Tommy Berden reports
Margriet Huisman and Orla Noom have progressed through to
the quarter finals of the Meersquash Open 2006. Unseeded Huisman
surprisingly beat former European junior champion Charlie de Rijcke from
Belgium in three games.
Noom, seeded second in Hoofddorp, struggled with qualifier Deon Saffery,
but managed to seal victory in a 60 minute match. Later today the Dutch
girls face each other in the quarter finals.
Milja Dorenbos didn’t make it a Dutch trio in the last eight. Dorenbos
offered good resistance against Aisling Blake, seeded fourth, but
fell short at the important points. The Irish player will meet Elise Ng
from Hong Kong later today. Ng easily defeated Susannah King.
The tournament also ended for Dagmar Vermeulen and Melissa Meulenbelt.
Vermeulen lost against her Dutch league team mate Danielle Schumann in
four games and the 17-year old Meulenbelt went down against Manuela
Manetta from Italy.
Top seed Louise Crome from New Zealand moved into the last eight
easily enough, the tournament favourite beat Emma Beddoes from England in
three games.
In the quarter finals Crome will take on Tenille Swartz from South
Africa. The 19-year old surprised seventh seeded Lauren Siddall in a tough
and close match. |
