Forexx to sponsor
WWO 2009 in Amsterdam
The 2009 Women's World Open Squash Championships will be staged in
Amsterdam and sponsored by Forexx.
The Forexx Women's World Open will take place in the Dutch
city from 20-27 September 2009. An all-glass court will be a
feature of the championship, at an exciting venue which will be
announced later.
It will be the 25th staging of the world's most prestigious women's
individual championship - and the first time it has been hosted by
the Netherlands since 1989, when it was held in Warmond.
Already supporters of the
Dutch Open in
September, technology recruitment company Forexx is expanding its
sponsorship portfolio by backing the 2009 World Open.
As well as past hosts of the event, Netherlands also boast a former
world champion in Dutch star Vanessa Atkinson, who triumphed
in 2004.
Indeed, last year's runner-up Natalie Grinham, the world No2,
has now taken Dutch representation having lived for a number of
years in nearby Almere.
"With Atkinson and Grinham joined by Dutch champion Annelize Naude,
home interest in the Amsterdam event will be strong," commented
World Open promoter Tommy Berden.
"But Amsterdam has become such a hotbed of squash that a number of
other players also base themselves in the city - including the world
number one Nicol David from Malaysia, no less!" added Berden.

01-Sep-07:
Amsterdam lined up to host 2009 Women's World Title
Following on from the announcement of the WISPA partnership
with Stolwijk and Eichhorn for the staging of the Women's
World Championship in 2009 - 2011, the dates and host city of the
first event are now in place and have been confirmed by WISPA.
The championship will be held from Monday 31 August until Sunday
6 September 2009 in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.
"WISPA
are in discussion with World Squash Federation to agree a
realignment of the management of the Women's World Open to bring it
in line with the operation of the Men's World Open, which is handled
by PSA under the auspices of WSF, so this would be the first World
Open played under the revised arrangements when this is finalised,
as we hope it will be.
"It is important to us to be able to integrate the WSF World Open
title with the rest of the WISPA World Tour and feel that we are
best placed to manage the administration and media promotion of it'
he added.
"Regarding 2009, I am pleased to report that Amsterdam has been
chosen to host the championship. Netherlands in general and
Amsterdam in particular is a real hotbed for world squash and the
training base for a number of top players including the world number
one and two Nicol David and Natalie Grinham.
"Planning is well under way for the championship in conjunction with
our great new partners Stolwijk and Eichhorn, which will undoubtedly
see continuation of the certain success of the Women's World Open
this year in Madrid and 2008 in Manchester. Actual venue details
will be announced later."

Madrid 2007
The Madrid World Open in October this
year sees Amsterdam based Malaysian World number one Nicol David
trying for a third win in a row to equal Australian Michelle
Martin's record before having a tilt at matching New Zealander
Susan Devoy (four) and the record five held by Sarah
Fitz-Gerald, the Australian winning her last in 2002.

WISPA Heralds new three-year
World Championship agreement
With the Women’s World Open Squash Championship already
confirmed for Madrid this year and Manchester in 2008, the Women's
International Squash Players' Association (WISPA) has now signed a
milestone three-year partnership with Dutch management company
Stolwijk & Eichhorn to back the Women’s World Championships
from 2009 to 2011.
The three-year deal will see Stolwijk & Eichhorn (S & E) stage and
promote the event with a minimum prize fund approaching half a
million dollars and a total investment of $1.5 million.
The event will not only be the centrepiece of the WISPA World Tour
but would, under the auspices of the World Squash Federation (WSF),
provide a further boost to squash’s Olympic aspirations, starting in
the year of the IOC decision for the 2016 programme.
S & E partner Arno Stolwijk expressed his excitement about the
partnership: "We are very proud of our new partnership with WISPA.
The continuity of three years of hosting this major championship
provides us with the opportunity for really strong planning towards
partnering with sponsors, organising great events and enabling us to
improve the profile of the elite squash environment in the
Netherlands and beyond in a structured way.
"We can't wait to announce further details regarding the first
championship in 2009," added Stolwijk.
WISPA Chief Executive Andrew
Shelley focused on the television aspects of the new
partnership:
"One important benefit of this agreement is that it enables us to
spearhead improvements in the quality and spread of our television
programming. This will benefit many other events as well as the
profile of the sport too.”
WISPA
President Natalie Grainger emphasised the importance of the
event in developing the WISPA Tour.
"This wonderful continuity for the ‘Worlds’ means we can really
begin to plan a strong long-term calendar of major championships.
These are exciting times for WISPA we look forward to forging ahead
with S & E in the coming years." |
