Razik Rallies to Baltimore Title
Jay Bewley reports from Baltimore
An outstanding 5 game 1 hour and 20 minute final for the inaugural
Baltimore Cup.
After the first two games were shared, Canadian Shahier Razik took a
close third and was apparently in cruise mode, up 9-4 in the fourth game
and just two points away from victory.
Australia's top seed Dan Jenson however strung together 7 straight points
to take the match to a 5th game.
Razik regained his composure and steady form to take the final game, even
after three lets on match point.

08-Oct, Quarters & Semis:
Top
Two In Baltimore Final
The top two seeds will contest the semi-finals of the Baltimore Cup after
two rounds of action at the Baltimore Racket Club today.
Australia's top seed Dan Jenson will meet Canada's second seed
Shahier Razik both enjoyed two straight-games wins in the quarter and
semi-finals.
Jenson came past two Canadian opponents, beating David Phillips followed
by fourth seed Shawn De Lierre, while Razik beat qualifier Mike Corren,
and then faced a tired third seed, Brazil's Rafael Alarcon who had played
two five-game matches to reach the semis.
Both are well accustomed to reaching the later stages of events - Jenson
will be aiming for his 11th PSA tour title, Razik his 10th, having already
claimed four this year. ...
07-Oct, First Round:
Seeds Safe in Baltimore
All but two seeds safely navigated the
first round of the Baltimore Cup at the Baltimore Racket Club -
apart from eighth seed Viktor Berg, who withdrew ill and was
replaced by 'lucky loser' Luke Margan.
Rather than heading home after losing in the qualifying finals
in his first event away from home, Margan grabbed his chance and
created the first upset of the day as he beat fellow Australian Wade
Johnstone. Seventh seed Ian Power also lost out, to Australian
qualifier Mike Corren - who beat Margan in the qualifying
finals!
Top seeds Dan Jenson and Shahier Razik enjoyed
straight games wins to reach the quarter-finals, as did fourth seed
Shawn De Lierre, but Brazilian third seed Rafael Alarcon
was pushed to five games by qualifier Ahmed Hamza before clinching
his berth in the last eight.
With quarters and semis tomorrow, players will be looking for quick
wins in the morning, hoping to save much-needed energy for the
evening semi-finals.
