25-Sep, FINAL:

Borja Golan
(Esp) bt Daryl Selby (Eng)
   11/5, 11/7, 11/5

Borja Bags Barcelona Title

Local hero Borja Golan claimed the Ciutat de Barcelona title with a comprehensive victory over England's Daryl Selby in the final.

Golan dominated the match, playing in the same style that saw the Spaniard beat top seed Davide Bianchetti in yesterday's semi-final.

The win marks Golan's eighth PSA title, coming almost a year after his last success in Brazil, and continues his impressive record of winning every final in which he has appeared.

Hi Fram

Sorry, yes long timeI have been in hiding, training hard for 12 weeks and finally the season has started. I am in Barcelona at the moment where there is a huge festival on and the streets are packed with people. Its also so damn hot!

On the squash side of things I played local wildcard guy in the
1st round and won 3-0 fairly comfortably and then played Stacey last night and won 3-1 which was pleasing because never beaten him before. I hope you are well and enjoyed St .Louis.

I have to sign off now because i have only 2 minutes left on my internet card. Will email again soon ...
Daryl Selby

That's it, unfortunately, I just lost 3/0 against a good player who dominated from the start, and got me under pressure.

I couldn't do much I'm afraid, as at the end of the first game, I had nothing left in the tanki. But no excuse, he was far too strong for me today...

Despite my defeat, I'm really happy of my performance throughout the tournament, and I can't wait to return to France tomorrow!!!!!!!

All the best
Mathieu Castagnet

Round One:
Castagnet Continues
in Barcelona

French qualifier Mathieu Castagnet caused the biggest upset on the opening day's play in the Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona Open when he defeated England's seventh seed Tom Richards 11-10 11-8 4-11 8-11 11-8 in a marathon first round match in the Spanish city.

Castagnet, the 18-year-old from Le Mans who won a year's membership of the PSA after ending last season as No1 in the European Squash Federation junior rankings, will now take on Bermuda's fourth seed Nicholas Kyme - who overcame Sweden's Badr Abdel Aziz 8-11 11-9 5-11 11-6 11-10 in another dramatic five-game encounter which went to the wire.

Welsh qualifier Rob Sutherland also earned a place in the last eight after fighting back from two games down to upset France's eighth seed Romain Tenant 10-11 6-11 11-6 11-9 11-4. The 20-year-old from Newport now meets top seed Davide Bianchetti, the Italian who defeated Germany's Simon Rosner 11-4 11-5 11-10.

Juniors Castagnet & Simpson
Qualify in Barcelona

Competing in their first season on the PSA Tour, juniors Chris Simpson and Mathieu Castagnet fought through into the main draw of the Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona Open after beating higher-ranked players in the qualifying finals in the Spanish city.

Simpson, from Brighton in England, defeated Bermuda's James Stout 11-3 11-10 11-10, while Castagnet - the 18-year-old Frenchman who won a year's membership of the PSA after ending last season as No1 in the European Squash Federation junior rankings - beat Italy's Luca Mastrostefano 5-11 11-5 11-5 11-5.

Ten up for Barcelona

The tenth Barcelona Open takes place at the Natació Sant
Andreu and provides an opportunity for upcoming local players to test their mettle against the world standard.

Italy's Davide Bianchetti and England's Stacey Ross are top seeds, with Spanish champion Borja Golan, now resident in Barcelona, due to meet the Italian in the semi-finals.

Oriol Salvia, the Catalonian champion, is the wildcard entry, with Albert Codina, Constantino Casas, Ignasi Perez and young player Albert Hernandez, playing at his home club, carrying home hopes in the qualifying event.
