15-Dec-2011:
Egyptians
dominate BJO seedings
With seven of the top eight seeds hailing
from Egypt, the 2012 Tecnifibre British
Junior Open looks set to see another
haul of titles heading back to the land of
the Pharaohs in January, following on from
their Six, Eight and Six title-winning
performances in the last three years.
World
Junior Champion Marwan El Shorbagy
tops the Boys U19 draw, and will be aiming
to list the Drysdale Cup for the
first time to emulate his older brother
Mohamed.
The seedings predict an all-Egyptian final,
with Mohamed Abouelgar expected to
meet Shorbagy, as he did in the World Junior
final in Herentals. English hopes rest on
3/4 seed Declan James and Oliver Holland,
seeded 5/8.
In the girls U19 draw Emily Whitlock,
who won England's first title for a decade
in last year's U17 event, is seeded two,
with former world junior champion Nour El
Sherbini her anticipated opponent in the
final. After missing last year's BJO through
injury, Sherbini will be aiming to recapture
the U19 title, one of five BJO titles
already in the 16-year-old's possession.
Egyptians top five of the other six draws,
with Pakistan's Israr Ahmed in the
Boy's U15 being the only non-Egyptian top
seed.
