Semis Roundup

Egypt still on clean sweep course

After all the upsets the seeding won't be too disappointed after today's semi-finals, with many of the familiar and expected faces set to challenge for the titles on Wednedsay.

Both U19 titles will be heading Egypt's way, with Mohamed El Shorbagy still on course for at third title after a comfortable enough win over Lucas Serme. Karim Abdel Gawad had a little more trouble subduing Alfredo Avila, but will relish the opportunity of another shot at Shorbagy after pushing him so close in last year's semis.

The Girls U19 title was heading to Egypt whatever the results today, but most attention was centred on the world juniors rematch between Nour El Sherbini and Heba El Torky. Despite dropping the first game the world junior champion prevailed again. She'll meet Salma Hany, who made it a bad day for the El Torky's, beating Nouran in the longest match of the day.

In theory Sherbini could take five U19 titles to eclipse the achievement of Omneya Abdel Kawy ... but only if she wins tomorrow, of course.

Shorbagy the younger, Marwan, will meet compatriot Mohamed Abou Elgar for the Boys' U17, while the USA has two chances - Amanda Sobhy meets defending champion Nour El Tayed for the Girls' 17 crown while in the U15 Dylan Murray also meets Egyptian opposition in the form of Shehab Essam, who dashed hopes of a first Jordanian finalist when he beat second seed Ahmad Al Saraj in four games.

Egypt has two more titles guaranteed - what chances of a clean sweep? - with the Girls U15 and U13 both featuring all-Egyptian finals
