Golan overcomes Rodriguez
in Bogotá final
Borja Golan celebrated his second appearance in a PSA final in Bogotá
in a week by winning the Bogotá Tennis Club Circuito Mundial De Squash
in the Colombian capital.
The 24-year-old Spaniard, who was runner-up in last week's Club El
Nogal Colombian Open, faced local star Miguel Angel Rodriguez in the
final at Bogotá Tennis Club.
Rodriguez, the 21-year-old South American champion from Bogotá,
delighted the local crowd by overturning two higher-seeded opponents -
Mexico's Pan American Games champion Eric Galvez and England's second
seed Joey Barrington - to provide unexpected Colombian interest in the
climax.
After losing the first game in a close-fought tie-break, Rodriguez
drew level by taking the second game.
But Golan, who returned to the world top 20 rankings in the new PSA
list published this month, piled on the pressure to close out the
match 71 minutes.
Golan, whose success takes his career PSA title tally to 15, now heads
to England where he will begin the defence of his title next week in
the Wolverhampton Open.

Rampant Rodriguez
romps into Bogotá final
Colombian squash star Miguel Angel Rodriguez secured a second
sensational upset in 24 hours when he despatched Mexico's Pan American
Games champion Eric Galvez in the semi-finals of the Bogotá Tennis
Club Circuito Mundial De Squash to claim a place in the final.
The 21-year-old South American champion from Bogotá, seeded five,
removed second seed Joey Barrington in the quarter-finals. In the
semis, he faced the third seed, but spurred on by the supportive
Bogotá Tennis Club crowd, Rodriguez defeated Galvez in 46 minutes to
reach the ninth PSA Tour final of his career.
His opponent will be top-seeded Spaniard Borja Golan. The 24-year-old
from Santiago DC, who has yet to drop a game in the event, beat
Brazil's sixth seed Rafael Alarcon in 31 minutes.
Runner-up in last week's Colombian Open in the city, Golan is
celebrating his 19th PSA final appearance.

31-Aug, Round
One:
Rodriguez beats Barrington
in Bogotá ...
Local star Miguel Angel Rodriguez thrilled the packed and partisan
crowd at the Bogotá Tennis Club when he upset second seed Joey
Barrington in the quarter-finals to become the only Colombian
through to the last four.
Rodriguez, the 21-year-old South American champion from Bogotá, took
61 minutes to overcome his higher ranked English opponent to
record one of his best results on the PSA Tour.
The fifth seed now faces No3 seed Eric Galvez, the Mexican who
repeated his Pan American Games final victory over Julian
Illingworth by beating the seventh seed from the USA in an 87-minute
marathon.
There will also be South American interest in the other semi-final
when Brazilian Rafael Alarcon takes on top-seeded Spaniard Borja
Golan.
Alarcon, the sixth seed, ended the brave run of 19-year-old Mexican
qualifier Arturo Salazar. Golan had an easier ride, romping to
victory after just two games when his opponent Jorge Isaac Baltazar
Ferreira, the No8 seed, was forced to retire with a throat
infection.
Salazar twins burst
through in Bogotá
Mexican twins Arturo Salazar and Cesar Salazar claimed unexpected
places in the main draw of the Bogotá Tennis Club Circuito Mundial De
Squash after victories over higher-ranked opponents in the qualifying
finals of the new 2-star PSA event at Bogotá Tennis Club in the
Colombian capital Bogotá.
Arturo, 19, upset France's Yann Perrin - ranked more than 100 places
higher in the world list - and will now face Canada's No4 seed Shawn
Delierre in the first round.
Cesar despatched Argentina's Roberto Pezzota and will now meet
fellow Mexican Eric Galvez, the Pan American Games champion, in the
main draw.
Spaniard Borja Golan, who reached the final of last week's Club El
Nogal Colombian Open in the city, is top seed in the event and will
open his Bogotá Tennis Club campaign against Colombian Juan Pablo
Gaviria.
