07-Nov-06:
Alarcon and Redfern are
Brazilian National Champs

Rodrigo Galindo of VirtualSquash reports
15 up for Redfern ...

Karen Redfern (SP) achieved the title again to become National Champion for the 15th time.

She beat last year's champion Thaisa Serafini (RS) who started the game at a high pace and and won the first game to take the lead. But Karen came back into the match and used her experience to win the next three games for the title ...  the most successful Brazilian squash player ever !

"I wanted that title so much, I told you at the beginning the tournament.

"It was very hard as Thaisa is improving her squash very quickly and ... I am very happy now!"

 ... and 7 for Rafael

Brazilian international Rafael Alarcon was the favourite to won the title again. But Tiago Cabral was aiming for his first national trophy, and after a great victory over Ronivaldo Santos in five games in the semis, he started very well to win the first game.

Rafael came out very fast in the second and improving the pace levelled the match at one-all. The third game was very well contested, quite long, with a lot of big rallies and the players knew that could be the decisive one. Alarcon was lucky and also won this one on a tiebreak (12/10).

After that he eased away to win the fourth game and the match to claim sis seventh National title.

"Of course I am happy, but it was very difficult, the court was very hot and the ball was very bouncy.

"I didn't find my game at all at the start, my shots were not very good, but in the end it worked well."

Results:
[1] Rafael Alarcon bt [2] Tiago Cabral (SP)       3/1
[1] Karen Redfern bt [2] Thaisa Serafini (RS)    3/1
