New Tecnifibre British Junior Champions crowned
Paul Houghton reports from Wimbledon

Charles Sharpes (Surrey) captured his first National Title defeating former U13 & U15 National Champion James Earles (Yorkshire) in a fiercely contested final. Both players had been on top form all weekend and played out an hour long final in front of a packed crowd at Wimbledon Health & Racquets Club. Sharpes playing at his home club had the support of the crowd which looked to give him that extra boost as the first two games went to a tie break, Sharpes taking both of them 14-12. Earles fought back winning the third 11-7 but Sharpes, determined not to miss this chance, came out in the fourth and proved to be too strong as he took the game 11-8

Julianne Courtice (Gloucestershire) became the Girls Under 17 British Junior Champion, defeating Emily Whitlock (Cheshire) 3-1 in 35 minutes. Courtice had a dominant run through to the finals and was not kept on court longer than 30 minutes in any previous match. 9/16 seed Whitlock came into the final off the back of two excellent results, taking out the number 1 seed Millie Tomlinson and Welsh 3/4 seed Tesni Evans. Courtice however was in great form and after losing the third game 8-11 came out all guns blazing to seal the win with an emphatic 11-1 victory in the 4th and final game.

The Boys Under 13 Final was between the 1st and 2nd seeds. Russell Clark (Derbyshire) faced Hamish Falconer (Lincolnshire) in a thrilling 45 minute battle. Both players were eager to claim their first National Title but it was the number 1 seed Clark who pushed on to claim it 3-1.

Eleanor Lake (Gloucestershire) was crowned Girls Under 13 Champion after a tough match against Katie Wilson (Surrey). Wilson took the first game 11-9 but couldn’t push on after that, Lake replying superbly and sealing victory by winning the next 3 games in 23 minutes.
