Sun 19th, Day THREE:   semis & finals ...

Boys U19 Final:

[1] Chris Simpson bt [2] Joel Hinds
         9/2, 9/7, 9/0 (41m)

Chris Simpson made it two National U19 titles in a row, maintaining his unblemished record with a straight-games win over second seed Joel Hinds.

Simpson was quick off the mark, not allowing Hinds time to settle, using great variety to keep his opponent on his toes. The Derbyshire lad fought back to challenge strongly in the second game, but when Simpson held on to claim the 23-minute game Hinds' challenge faded.

Girls U19 Final:

[1] Rachel Willmott bt [3/4] Emma Chorley
      8/10, 9/7, 9/3, 9/5 (51m)

Going one better than last year, Rachel Willmott recovered from a game and 7/3 down to beat Emma Chorley and claim the National U19 title.

[2] James Earles bt [1] Ben Rodgers
      9/5, 4/9, 9/4, 9/5 (41m)

Boys U15 Final:

James Earles added the U15 National title to the U13 he won last year wioth a convincing performance in the final against top seeded Ben Rodgers.

It was an excellent match, both players displayed how well they are able to control the ball.

The first two games were shared, but with Earles moving the ball  into spaces that Rodgers had to chase down, the pressure slowly told as the Devon boy tired.

"James is an exceptional talent, his ability to control the ball and his opponent is outstanding .."

David Campion

The first final looked like it might be over quickly as Northumbria's Kimberley Hay raced to a 1-0, 7-0 lead against Katherine Quarterman.

But the Oxfordshire girl fought back to claim the second, and fell only narrowly short in the next two games as Hay added the U15 title to the U13 she won in 2003.

"It was very good standard squash. Kim started very well, and I didn't expect Katherine to be able to live with her, but she did, she raised her game well and it became a very well-contested match.

"Kim was just a little bit steadier overall, and made fewer errors which probably made the difference in a really tough and close match."

David Barnett
Kim's coach

Girls U15 Final:

[1] Kimberley Hay bt [2] Katherine Quarterman
      9/0, 9/10, 9/7, 9/6 (49m)

Boys U19 Semis

Another win for the seeding committee as Chris Simpson and Joel Hinds kept up their 100% records. Simpson took advantage of a tired Chris Hall, while Hinds overpowered Tom Pashley.

    9/0, 9/1, 9/4 (32m)
Joel Hinds bt Tom Pashley
    9/5, 9/2, 9/5 (41m)

Girls U19 Semis

Blimey. That's the best word to describe two fantastic matches ...  Emma Chorley was 2/1 and 8/1 down but came back to beat Deon Saffery 10/9 in the fifth, and Rachel Willmott saved three match balls on her way to beating Victoria Bell in five games ...  more details  ...

Rodgers & Chambers

Boys U15 Semis

Ben Rodgers and James Earles won contrasting semi-finals to set up their seeded clash in the final. Rodgers won a see-saw battle against Sammy Chambers, eventually taking the fifth 9/0, while Earles ended the run of unseeded Ben Coleman in straight games.

Girls U15 Semis:

Top seeds Kimberley Hay and Katherine Quarterman will contest the final after both proved too strong for their semi-final opponents, each conceding just eight points as they eased to straight games victories.

Quarterman bt Wardle  9/4 9/0 9/4 (23m)

Wardle & Quarterman
Sat 18th, Day TWO:

After a hectic day one which saw each of the four draws whittled down to the last 16, day two will further reduce the fields to the final four, with top seeds Kimberley Hay (GU15), Ben Rodgers (B15), Rachel Willmott (G19) and Chris Simpson (B19) all on course so far.

Competition in the Boys U19 is fierce with places in the World Juniors team for New Zealand in the summer up for grabs.

10-Jan:
Sheppards VW to
co-sponsor event

Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club is delighted to announce that Sheppards Volkswagen situated in Dane Street, Bishop’s Stortford will be co-sponsoring this year’s highly prestigious event.

Commenting on Sheppards Volkswagen involvement with the tournament, General Manager Bryan Cooper said:

“Sheppards are pleased to be involved with the Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club as co-sponsors of the British Junior Squash Championships.”

In 2004 the club hosted this tournament for Under 17 & Under 13 age groups with the assistance of our neighbours The Chantry Squash Club. Our national body, England Squash, were so impressed with our facilities, the organisation and the welcome they received, they have asked the Clubs to host the tournament for the more senior age groups in February 2006.

The event is bigger than ever in 2006 due to the support of major businesses around Bishop’s Stortford: BAA London Stansted, Sheppards Volkswagen, Kallkwik, Sodexho, Active Security, Multitech, Magnecap, Armour, PTS Consulting, Waitrose, Planet Bikes, Europcar, Racingline, PC Services and Flightpower. In addition to the on-court activities, visitors will have the chance to see the all-new Volkswagen Jetta and win a chance to drive one for the weekend. But if that is not your style of transport then someone will also win a brand new bike over the weekend.

With refreshments available all weekend in the club and events marquee the club are convinced that this will be the best Championships to date both on and off the courts.

The Championships start at 9am on Friday 17 February with the Bishop’s Stortford Town Mayor Keith Barnes officially opening the event, he said,

“ I am delighted to hear that Bishop’s Stortford and Chantry Squash Club are hosting the British Junior Squash Championships. This indeed is a great honour for the clubs and for the town, I congratulate you for achieving this status”

The event take place during schools half term and The Chantry Squash Club are again assisting us with the use of their courts for the first round matches.

The Club extends a very warm welcome to all young people in the area to come along and watch this dynamic and exciting sport played by the country’s top young players.

03-Feb:
BAA London Stansted
to sponsor event

Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club is delighted to announce that BAA London Stansted will be sponsoring this year’s highly prestigious event.

Commenting on BAA Stansted’s involvement with the tournament, Managing Director Terry Morgan said:

“We are delighted to pledge our support to the Championships. We wish all the competitors the very best of luck, I’m sure it will be a fabulous event”

In 2004 the club hosted this tournament for Under 17 & Under 13 age groups with the assistance of our neighbours The Chantry Squash Club. Our national body, England Squash, were so impressed with our facilities, the organisation and the welcome they received, they have asked the Club to host the tournament for the more senior age groups in February 2006.

Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club was formed in 1950 and has over 400 members using six courts including three glass-backed show courts. The Club has a attractive bar and lounge area and houses a fitness suite in conjunction with LifeStyle Fitness. A major refurbishment of the Club was completed in 2003, upgrading the changing rooms, lounge and adding the third glass-backed show court.

The Club is one of the most successful squash clubs in the South of England and are current Mens and Womens teams Champions of the premier Hertfordshire and Essex Squash Leagues. One of the strengths of the Club is our Junior Section which centres around Saturday coaching sessions attended by over 50 juniors. We currently have four nationally ranked juniors, 22 in the county rankings and this Junior Coaching Programme over the years has produced players such as Daryl Selby, Jason Foster and Oliver Dixon who have all gone on to represent England.

Club Manager, Jason Foster was thrilled when BAA confirmed their involvement and hopes that the support received from BAA will enable the Club to grow and develop better facilities for the members and in particular the Junior Section :-

“The staging this event at the Club for a second time will inspire so many of our Juniors to greater heights to represent their county and hopefully their country and the contribution from senior members has been magnificent as volunteers and coaches at weekends. BAA’s support is a great boost for the Club and in particular our Juniors.”

The Championships start at 9am on Friday 17 February during schools half term and The Chantry Squash Club are again assisting us with the use of their courts for the first round matches.

The Club extends a very warm welcome to all young people in the area to come along and watch this dynamic and exciting sport played by the country’s top young players.
