11-Feb, Semis:
Shelley & Rebecca set up
Hong Kong rematch
In today semi-finals of the women's main draw, the two top seeds, NZL's
Shelley Kitchen and HK's Rebecca Chiu Wing-yin reached tomorrow's 3pm at
the Hong Kong Squash Centre.
Asian Games Gold Medallist Chiu dismissed her team-mate Christina Mak
Pui-hin 9-6, 2-9, 9-3, 9-1 in 36mins while top seed Kitchen defeated
Aussie's Kasey Brown 9-0, 9-2, 9-4 in just 17mins.
They will meet again in the Women's Final tomorrow. Last July in HK's
Crocodile Squash Challenge Cup, Rebecca beat Shelley 3-1 in the Final.
The men's finals saw the top two seeds depart at the semi-final stage as
England's Chris Ryder and Pakistan's Bilal Zaman upset Wai Hang Wong and
Tim Arnold, respectively.
Kitchen & Chiu set for
HK Reunion ?
Should the form book hold, the two top-ranked players Shelley Kitchen
and Rebecca Chiu are likely meet once more in the final of the
Buler Challenge Cup - they met in the Crocodile Challenge in last
July held in HK when Rebecca beat Shelley 3-1 in the women's final.
But before they reach the final, both will have to face aspiring
international talents such as Tegwen Malik, Tamsyn Leevey and Amelia
Pittock.
"We will use the event as our final preparation for the Asian
Championships to be held in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan the following
week," said Tony Choi of HK squash. "We hope we can better the result of
the last event."
Hong Kong were second in the women's and fifth in the men's team events at
the last events at the last Asian Championships.
The men's challenge is also full of promise, as HK's Wong Wai Hang looks
to defend his title.
