German Bundesliga Finals,
20-22 May 2005, Stuttgart

Sun 22nd:

Paderborner take Bundesliga Title

Paderborner SC claimed the Bundesliga title in a final that went down to the wire.

Edgar Schneider put Paderborner one up, but Oliver Post levelled for Bonn/Mulheim. The number one string was fiercely contested, with David Palmer edging out Peter Nicol to give Bonn the edge.

In the final match Paderborner's Stefan Leifels needed a win to give his team the title, althought 3-2 would have led to countback on points. In the event the calculators weren't necessary as Leifels won in straight games, giving Paderborner a 9-7 victory on games countback.

There was consolation for Bonn/Mulheim in the women's final as Linda Elriani led them to the title with a five-game victory over world champion Vanessa Atkinson.

Nicol takes Paderborner into Final

CW Bonn/Mulheim and Paderborner SC will contest the final of the Bundesliga play-offs after contrasting semi-final wins in Stuttgart. Bonn, headed by world number two David Palmer, completed a comfortable win over Koblenz, but the second semi-final finished 2-all with Paderborner winning on countback.

Poised at one-all, Peter Nicol and Gregory Gaultier played the decisive match - described as 'brutal' by an observer - with Nicol winning 11/9 in the fourth after 100+ minutes to give Paderboner an unassailable lead.
