Espeleta & Alonso
take Canary titles


Pedro Espeleta
and Eduardo González de Cháves delighted the crowd at the Centro Insular de Squash de Tenerife in the Final of the Canary Islands National Championships 2008.

In a final of 72 minutes, Pedro beat Eduardo 3-2 in a very close match - 8-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8.

In the match for the 3rd and 4th place, Carlos Bercedo beat Javier Gonzalvez  11-6, 11-7, 11-8.

In the girls final, Laura Alonso cruised to victory over Adriana Marrero 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.

It was a very nice tournament played over three wonderful sunny days with nearly 100 players from all the Canary Islands

After the Final, the Federación Canaria de Squash made a Paella, the typical Spanish meal for all the public, players and squash people.

The Squash doesn't stop in the Canary Islands, as in only three weeks will start one of the most important events of the year in Europe, the OHL Spanish Open (PSA 2-star, 02-07 Dec) that will be played in the night, outdoors in the wonderful weather of the Canary Islands.

The three Canary Islands players who will be in the OHL Spanish Open will be: Eduardo Gonzalez (Main Draw), Pedro Espeleta and Carlos Bercedo (locals in qualification).

OHL Spanish Open preview

Coming up in Tenerife is the the Canary Islands National Championships.

As well as the Canary Islands title the champion and the runner up will win two local places in the OHL Spanish Open, set for 02-07 December.

The best Canary Islands players will participate, including Eduardo Glez ( the new PSA player who will be the wild card in the main draw of the Spanish Open), Pedro Espeleta (one the best players in Spain), Carlos Bercedo ( the best player of the year in canary Islands), Tito Rodríguez ....

The venue will be the Centro Insular de Squash de Tenerife. The tournament starts on Thursday November 6th and finishes on Sunday November 9th.

In the Tournament will be 100 players in the male draw and 32 in the female draw (Laura Alonso, the Canary Islands Wispa player and number 3 of Spain will be the great favourite, and there will be  be players from the seven canary islands.
