Central title for Camilleri
Australian Lisa Camilleri has upset the form book to take out
the Central Squash Open in New Plymouth.
The third seed toppled top seed Christina Mak from Hong Kong in the
final, winning 9/7 3/9 9/3 9/5 in 59 minutes. It's Camilleri's fifth
title on the WISPA World Tour.
Meanwhile, second seeded Wellingtonian Willie Bicknell won
the men's event, beating Central's Anthony McLeod 9/5 9/4 3/9 9/3 in
the final.

Australian
Lisa Camilleri staged a superb fight back to win through to
the final of the WISPA Women's World Squash Tour's Central Open in
New Plymouth.
The third seed was on the verge of bowing out of the tournament at
2-0 and 8/3 down in the third game against second seeded compatriot
Donna Urquhart, but fought back to win the game 10/8.
Camilleri then denied Urquhart a further three match balls in the
deciding fifth game, before taking out the match 8/10 1/9 10/8 9/4
10/8 in 64 minutes.
Camilleri will face Hong Kong's Christina Mak in the final.
The top seed is through after a 9/5 10/8 9/4 victory over fourth
seeded kiwi Joelle King.
There was also a big upset in the men's draw, with top seed Nathan
Sneyd going down to Central's Ant McLeod in the semifinals.
Sneyd twice fought back from a game down, but unseeded McLeod
finally sealed a 9/5 3/9 9/5 5/9 9/4 victory in 59 minutes.

The top four seeds are safely through to the semifinals at the WISPA
Women's World Squash Tour's Central Open in New Plymouth.
Top seed Christina Mak from Hong Kong cruised to a 9/1 9/4
9/1 victory over New Zealand's Jackie Laurenson while second seeded
Australian Donna Urquhart also dropped just six points in a
9/3 9/1 9/2 win over young kiwi Lana Harrison.
Third seeded Australian Lisa Camilleri continued the trend of
comfortable wins, beating kiwi qualifier Elizabeth Day 9/3 9/1 9/4,
while fourth seeded New Zealander Joelle King made it a clean
sweep of straight games victories for the seeds with a 10/9 9/5 9/2
win over compatriot Larissa Stephenson.
King's chance to shine at home

Rising New Zealand squash star Joelle King will get the
chance to celebrate her new career high world ranking of 61 in front
of a home crowd this weekend.
The Waikato teen lines up in the Central Open in New Plymouth, a
$US10,000 event on the WISPA world tour.
King is seeded fourth in the event, and is expected to meet world
number 33 and top seed Christina Mak from Hong Kong in the
semi-finals.
Australians Donna Urquhart and Lisa Camilleri are
seeded to meet in the other semi-final.
The men's draw is a tale of two clubs, with top seed Nathan Sneyd
and second seeded Willie Bicknell both from the Thorndon club
in Wellington, while Palmerston North's Kent Darlington and
Glenn Carson round out the top four.
