Gary Denvir reports

Australian Lisa Camilleri staged a superb fight back to win through to the final of the WISPA Women's World Squash Tour's Central Open in New Plymouth.

The third seed was on the verge of bowing out of the tournament at 2-0 and 8/3 down in the third game against second seeded compatriot Donna Urquhart, but fought back to win the game 10/8.

Camilleri then denied Urquhart a further three match balls in the deciding fifth game, before taking out the match 8/10 1/9 10/8 9/4 10/8 in 64 minutes.

Camilleri will face Hong Kong's Christina Mak in the final.  The top seed is through after a 9/5 10/8 9/4 victory over fourth seeded kiwi Joelle King.

There was also a big upset in the men's draw, with top seed Nathan Sneyd going down to Central's Ant McLeod in the semifinals.  Sneyd twice fought back from a game down, but unseeded McLeod finally sealed a 9/5 3/9 9/5 5/9 9/4 victory in 59 minutes.

King's chance to shine at home
Gary Denvir reports

Rising New Zealand squash star Joelle King will get the chance to celebrate her new career high world ranking of 61 in front of a home crowd this weekend. The Waikato teen lines up in the Central Open in New Plymouth, a $US10,000 event on the WISPA world tour.

King is seeded fourth in the event, and is expected to meet world number 33 and top seed Christina Mak from Hong Kong in the semi-finals. Australians Donna Urquhart and Lisa Camilleri are seeded to meet in the other semi-final.

The men's draw is a tale of two clubs, with top seed Nathan Sneyd and second seeded Willie Bicknell both from the Thorndon club in Wellington, while Palmerston North's Kent Darlington and Glenn Carson round out the top four.
