Adrian takes
CNS title

England's top-seeded Adrian Grant claimed the 13th PSA title of his career when he ended home hopes with a 3-1 victory over Mansoor Zaman in the final in Karachi.

It was a battle between two left-handers, in which Londoner Grant took the early initiative before Zaman levelled the match after the second game.

It took a tie-break to resolve the third – but the Englishman, the 25-year-old world No17 now based in Yorkshire, extended his advantage in the fourth to claim victory after 56 minutes.

The win marks Grant's third PSA Tour title success in Pakistan after winning the COAS International in February 2004 and the CAS International in August 2005 – both in Islamabad.

Mansoor stops Aamir's run in Karachi

Mansoor Zaman narrowly avoided the fate of his cousin Shahid as he overcame Pakistan's teenage prodigy Aamir Atlas Khan in a five-game thriller in the CNS semi-finals in Karachi.

Aamir, who had beaten second-seeded Shahid in the first round, took a 2-1 lead against Mansoor, the third seed. Zaman bounced back to level, and the decisive game saw both players fighting for each and every point before eventually it was experience that prevailed as Mansoor bagged the final game with narrow 11-10 margin.

Mansoor will face top seed Adrian Grant inthe final. The Englishman dropped the first game against Liam Kenny but took the next three comfortably for his third successive 3/1 win.

Aamir joins seeds in semis
Based on report from the Daily Times

The quartet of Adrian Grant, Mansoor Zaman, Liam Kenny and Aamir Atlas Khan moved into the semifinals of the 7th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) International after contrasting victories at the Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Squash Complex.

Top seed and world number 17 Adrian Grant dropped the first game to wildcard Farhan Mehboob of Pakistan, but Grant, the world number 17, came back strongly to dominate the rest of the match to silence the Pakistani supporters. Grant will take on Liam Kenny of Ireland in the semis.

Kenny was taken to four games by Egyptian Omar Abdel Aziz. After winning a hard fought opening game, Kenny lost the second as Omar put an inspired performance. But he faded away as Kenny found his rhythm with forceful winners to wrap up the match.

Pakistan’s Aamir Atlas Khan recovered from dropping the opening game to overcome Englishman Tom Richards 3/1. In a fierce battle Aamir came back in style to carve out a well deserved win. Aamir, who ousted second seed Shahid Zaman in the first round, will now face his Peshawar city-mate Mansoor Zaman - and Shahid's cousin - in the semifinals.

Third seed Zaman looked in devastating touch in demolishing former Pakistan Open Champion Amjad Khan in straight games in just 23 minutes. World number 31 Mansoor, son of former squash legend Qamar Zaman, controlled the game with his superior shot play and good court coverage.

The Fan's View
Resident in Vancouver, Rehan Rizvi has been avidly following this tournament, and the budding career of Aamir Atlas (it was he who alerted us to the early results). Rehan's thoughts ...

Since losing to Aamir in the qualifiers of World Open, I am seeing a new Mansoor Zaman. He is all fired up, giving all he has, fights to the last.

I am sorry to see him lose, especially in Pakistan. I hope this new fire in him continues to burn.

As for Aamir I have really high hopes.

26-Sep-06:
SEEDS SUFFER IN KARACHI ...

Only three seeds survived today's first round of the CNS Squash International - the rout being led by a trio of local players who claimed unexpected places in the last eight of this established PSA Tour event in Karachi, Pakistan.

Aamir Atlas KhanAamir Atlas Khan caused the biggest casualty. The 16-year-old qualifier from Peshawar beat second/seeded compatriot Shahid Zaman in 19 minutes.

Khan now faces England's unseeded Tom Richards, who despatched Egypt's eighth seed Sherif Moustafa Kamel in straight games.

Farhan Mehboob ...Qualifier Amjad Khan also notched up a significant upset. The former Pakistan number one removed fellow countryman Khayal Muhammad Khan, the No6 seed, also in straight games.

The Indian campaign also fell at the first fence when fifth seed Ritwik Bhattacharya went down to unseeded Pakistani Farhan Mehboob.

The 17-year-old from Peshawar will now take on top seed Adrian Grant, the Englishman who needed four games and 66 minutes to quell Egyptian qualifier Omar Mosaad
