17-July, Semi-Finals:

Chiu left to carry home hopes

Heather Dayton with Tamsyn Leevey ...The sensational run of Hong Kong's young qualifier Dick Lau came to an end in the semi-finals as he fell in straight games to Germany's eighth seed Simon Rosner. In the final Rosner will meet second seed Dylan Bennett after the Dutchman survived a five-game tussle with New Zealand's Campbell Grayson.

The women's final will be between the top seeds Shelley Kitchen and Rebecca Chiu.

Kitchen, the world number 13, won a hard-fought match against fellow-Kiwi Tamsyn Leevey, gaining revenge for her shock defeat in the New Zealand National Championships. 18th-ranked Chiu kept alive hopes of a home victory with a straight-games win over Scotland's Pamela Nimmo, ranked just one place below the ten-time Hong Kong national champion.

15-July, Quarter-Finals:
Lau takes out top seed

In an all-Hong Kong quarter-final qualifier Dick Lau sensationally ousted Hong Kong number one and top seed Wai Hang Wong, in five games and 47 minutes. In the semi-final Lau meets Germany's Simon Rosner, the eighth seed who also created an upset as he beat third seed Timothy Arnold in straight games.

The bottom half of the draw went as expected, with Dylan Bennett meeting Campbell Grayson for a place in the Sunday's final.

In the women's event the top four seeds all progressed to the semi-finals, where Shelley Kitchen and Tamsyn Leevey will meet, guaranteeing a New Zealand finalist, and local favourite Rebecca Chiu takes on Scotland's Pamela Nimmo.

14-July, round one:
Top Seeds Tested in Hong Kong

The top two seeds in the men's event both needed five games to progress to the quarter-finals. The host's top seed Wai Hang Wong finally overcame qualifier Friedrich Scheel, while Dutch second seed Dylan Bennett found himself two games down to Darren Lewis, also a qualifier, before clinching a nail-biting fifth.

A home semi-finalist is assured, as Wong meets local qualifier Dick Lau in the quarters, after Lau beat fifth seed Shahril Shahidan in straight games.

No such trouble for the women's top seeds, as Shelley Kitchen and Rebecca Chiu both won in just 20 minutes. Korean qualifier Lee Hai-Kyung created the single upset in the women's draw, beating seventh-seed Louise Crome in four games.

13-July, Qualifying finals:
End of the road for HK Juniors

The Hong Kong Junior women's team, gaining match prictice for the upcoming world championships in Belgium, bowed out at the qualifying stage in Hong Kong as the team number one Annie Au, a 5/8 seed for Herentals, lost out in four games to Australia's Lisa Camilleri.

Elise Ng and Dick Lau were successful in their qualifying campaigns, however, boosting home representation to three in both men's and women's draws.
