Rebecca Retains
Crocodile Challenge Cup

Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu, retained the Crocodile Challenge Cup with a four-game victory over Australia's Melissa Martin in the final at the Hong Kong Squash Centre.

Chiu, who defeated top seed Shelley Kitchen in the semi-finals, had too much firepower for Martin, who had beaten second seeded Annelize Naude in the quarters, as the world number 18 went on to claim her sixth WISPA title.

It was not to be a Hong Kong double though, as Pakistan's top seeded Shamsul Islam Khan recovered from losing the first game against Hong Kong number one Wai Wang Hong, taking the next three to claim his second career PSA title.

Chiu charges into Crocodile final

Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu, the defending champion, scored an upset win over New Zealand's top seed Shelley Kitchen to keep alive her hopes of retaining the title. In a repeat of the 2005 final,  Chiu fought back from 2-1 down to reach the final, where she meets Australia's Melissa Martin, who followed up her quarter-final win over second seed Annelize Naude with a five-game semi-final win over Malaysia's Sharon Wee.

A home double is still o the cards, with Hong Kong's Wai Wang Hong overcoming compatriot Timothy Arnold to reach the final, where he meets top-seeded Shamsul Islam Khan.

19-Jul, Women's Qualifying results

Park in HK Marathon

While the men's qualifying for the 2006 Crocodile Cup is spread over two days, the women are playing both rounds today ... which is bad news for Korea's Eun Ok Park, who survived a marathon five-game 109-minute tussle to oust qualifying top seed Dianne Desira 9-7, 5-9, 9-5, 3-9, 10-8. She then faced Joshna Chinappa for a place in the main draw and not surprisingly went down in straight games.
