20-Jan-08:
Bell & Wagih take Czech crowns
Tomas Forter reports
from Prague
The favourites won in both boys and girls U19 categories in the
Czech Junior Open held in Squash Bowling Centrum in Prague.
In the girls U19 category top seeded Victoria Bell won
comfortably against Cigany Sierveld from the Netherlands with
another Dutch player Melissa Meulenbelt finishing third.
In the boys U19 category the top seeded and
home favourite Petr Martin lost in the semis to Egyptian
Ahmed Osama Hawas. In the final Ahmed won the first game against
his second-seeded (but tournament favourite) countryman Andrew
Wagih.
But from then on Andrew dominated the rallies and Ahmed retired when
he was 2/7 down in the third after he broke strings in his third
racket in the same match and had no more rackets.
In the battle for third spot home favourite Martin beat Australian
Aaron Fyfe in five hard fought games.
