Schonborn Shines
In Atlanta
South
African Regardt Schonborn claimed the first PSA title of his career
when he beat Egyptian Ahmed Maged Hamza in the final of the DragonDoc
Champs in Atlanta, USA.
After making his breakthrough in the quarter-finals when he defeated
Mexican favourite Jose Angel Becerril in five games, fifth seed
Schonborn reached his maiden Tour final after despatching Zimbabwean
qualifier Shaun Johnstone in the semi-finals.
Hamza, the 31-year-old fourth seed, was appearing in his second PSA
final after beating Pakistani Khayal Muhammad Khan, the No7 seed, in
the other semi.
But, after recovering from the loss of the first game, it was
24-year-old Schonborn who shined in Georgia - triumphing in 51 minutes
to record his breakthrough success.
25-Aug, Quarters & Semis:
More seeds
fall in Atlanta
There was no relenting in the massacre of the seeds today in Atlanta.
In the morning quarter-finals the top two seeds, Jose Angel Becerril
and Partick Chifunda, both lost out in five games.
Zimbabwe's Shaun Johnstone won the match of the day against Gilly
Lane, a hard fought five game battle in which Lane was coming from
behind in the 5th when he hit a short shot, Johnstone closed on it,
held his shot, and as Lane committed to covering the drop, Johnstone
flicked it cross court, just out of Lane's reach to take the match.
Johnstone now meets South African Regardt Schonborn who took out the
top seed after being 2-0 down.

24-Aug, Round One:
Seeds
suffer in
DragonDoc Championship
It was a disappointing day for Canadian seeds in the first round of
the DragonDoc Squash Championship, the inaugural PSA event in Atlanta,
USA.
Patrick Bedore was the biggest casualty, the third seed from Montreal
going down in 29 minutes to the USA's unseeded Gilly Lane. The
21-year-old from Philadelphia, in only his second PSA event, now meets
Zimbabwe qualifier Shaun Johnstone in the quarter-finals.
Johnstone also upset a Canadian seed - beating sixth seed Andrew
McDougall, from Calgary.
English qualifier Shahid Khan also progressed to an unexpected
quarter-final berth. The 28-year-old from Ipswich despatched
eighth-seeded Canadian Michal Reid and will now face Egypt's fourth
seed Ahmed Maged Hamza for a place in the last four.
