Kitchen collects in Calgary
Ken
Cross reports
As
she had all week, top seed Shelley Kitchen played with relentless pace,
pressure and precision, leaving fellow Kiwi Louise Crome little
opportunity to attack.
Although Crome played very well, she was unable to match the level of
play that Kitchen was able to summon all week here at the Elbow River
Casino Open, claiming her tenth career title.

The patrons of The Bow Valley Club were treated to another incredible
display of squash today.
We look forward to hosting the Second Annual Elbow River Casino Open
next season, and based on feedback from sponsors, it should be bigger
and better next year!

All-Kiwi final in Calgary
Ken
Cross reports
A New Zealand champion is guaranteed
in Calgary after convincing wins for the first and sixth seeds Shelley
Kitchen and Louise Crome.
Kitchen
continued her dominating ways using a combination of relentless pace and
well placed shots to the front of the court to keep Mexican number one
Samantha Teran, who had survived a marathon quarter-finals encounter the
day before, on the defensive for much of the match.
An impressive display of squash by both players none the less left the
patrons of the Bow Valley Club duly impressed by the level of squash
these Ladies can play.
In a hard fought match Crome came back from a game down to convincingly
"squash" Canadian favourite Runa Reta's hopes of advancing to the final.

28-Sep, Quarters:
Teran survives
Calgary marathon
Ken
Cross reports
The
highlight of a fine quarter-finals session at the Bow Valley Club was a
marathon match between Samantha Teran and Latasha Khan which lasted an
hour and a half.
In a five gamer that saw Teran prevail 3-2 having trailed 0-2, the
Mexican showed true composure and determination, playing through what
could be referred to as contentious points, to prevail.
The Bow valley Club patrons will never look at women's professional
squash the same. An incredible match by both players.
In the all-Canadian clash Runa Reta defeated local favourite Alana
Miller 3-0 in a surprisingly lop-sided affair.
Top seed Shelley Kitchen continued with her dominating play winning 3-0
over Amelia Pittock. Kitchen once again proved to be the class act in
the field, playing with unrelenting pressure, pace and well placed shots
to overwhelm her opponent.
Further Kiwi success followed when Louise Crome recovered from a game
down to beat Malaysia's Tricia Chuah, setting up a semi-final with Reta. |

A
WORTHY CAUSE
With the help of Elise Ng, Samantha Teran, Susie King, Tara Mullins and
Margriet Huisman we raised $3,500 in support of Breast cancer over the
Friday noon hour.
24 Members played 10 minute matches against the pros in support of the
cause and donated $$.
All were extremely impressed by the skill of the players (many sweaty, red
faced members stumbling around after their matches) as well as their
positive attitudes and great personalities.
It has been a pleasure to host the ladies at our club.
