24th June:
You may have noticed an anglo-French flavour to the site over the last few
months ... Well, part of the blame must go to the Laurent and
Linda Elriani, who set up their own 'entente cordiale' just after
Framboise caught up with them last May ... |

May 2004:
ENTENTE TRÈS CORDIALE…
«
Cordiale entente »
indeed…
"When
I met Laurent Elriani about 4 years ago, I thought he was
gorgeous. We have been going out for 2 years now, and the wedding is
planned for June."
The red haired English number 2, Linda Charman, is smiling at
me. She is obviously a happy lady. And it shows.
"Obviously, when we are in a team event like this one, we both have a
tendency to stick to our team, but we still support each other. If
France is playing England, I want England to win, but Laurent to win
his game.
"I love watching him play, I love his game, he is an attacker. I think
he deserves to be much higher in the ranking, but he just doesn’t have
enough money to go far away, he can only stick to the European events,
where the level is much higher than anywhere else in the world."
I asked the lady what she loved the most about the French way of life:
“I like the fact they are expressive, that they get excited about
things, that they enjoy their food, their meals. In England, we don’t
enjoy our meals that way”.
And what about what she doesn’t like about us?
"That the French get too excited. But on the other hand, I don’t like
conservatism. I’m sure that somewhere in between lies the truth."
To finish, I just asked her to describe her future husband:
"Sweet, funny, kind, sensitive, loving, gorgeous… and sexy."
I love the English who love French people who love the English!

MINI PORTRAIT:
from December 2004
Linda Elriani, just back from Malaysia ... |
The
gorgeous Linda Elriani was accompanied by her mum, and no need to ask
where she takes her good looks from…
“In Malaysia, I caught the flu, and was not feeling well at all. In the
last 16, my match lasted 71 minutes…. That didn’t help.
I managed somehow to get through my match with Jenny Duncalf, just
about. So I knew the next match was going to be a bit of a struggle. And
when it came to play Shelley, I was exhausted. I still played well, as I
took the first game, but after that, I was just left without energy.”
But
the English lady is glad to be home, and she’ll be even happier tomorrow
when her husband Laurent will be joining her at last, after a whole
month of separation, as they were both busy on the circuit…
I was a bit surprised that England didn’t send any team to the World
Doubles.
“Well, our schedule has been extremely busy recently, and our officials
thought it was better to concentrate on the next Commonwealth Games as
far as the doubles were concerned. We have a meeting on Thursday to
discuss the matter with England Squash. I think that, like last time, we
will concentrate our training in the summer prior to the Games.”
“During December, we will both be training hard with Mike Harris, in
Brighton. And in January, Laurent will be playing in Calgary, then in
Dayton, and I’ll be doing Greenwich and also Dayton, a tournament
organised by an old friend of mine, Julian Wellings, who has now moved
to America.”
Talking
about her future, she stated that, like Peter Nicol and Cassie Jackman,
she will probably stop running after a little black ball after the next
Commonwealth games. “It will be time to have a family, I think”…
When I asked her what the best thing about marriage was, she laughed and
said “that I get to spend the rest of my life with him…”
Sorry, people, I’m jealous… |
