Three-up for Flowerbulb
Preview from Tommy Berden
Squash Hillegom will play host for the third year in a row to a
professional squash tournament counting towards the WISPA World
Rankings.
20 players from 9 different countries will travel to the city of
Hillegom in the Netherlands to compete in the Squash Hillegom
Flowerbulb Open 2008, which will take place from December 12-14.
Lauren Siddall and Orla Noom head the seeding list of the
Tour 4 championship, boasting a total prize fund of $4,000usd.
The 25-year old Siddall will face Australia’s Sarah Cardwell,
daughter of 4-times British Open winner and former World Champion
Vicky Cardwell, in the first round. 23-year old Noom, ranked 41 in
the world, starts her bid to win a second WISPA title within a
month, after winning the Prague Open 2008 in November, with a match
against a qualifier. Other seeds include Vicky Hynes (3) from
England, the in-form Kylie Lindsay (4) from New Zealand and
Dutch international Dagmar Vermeulen (6).
The Squash Hillegom Flowerbulb Open 2008 is part of the Forexx
Pro Tour Squash 2008-2009, which consists of 10 professional
tournaments, all counting towards the World Rankings.
The Forexx Pro Tour gives the Dutch women the chance to earn main
draw and qualifying places for the Forexx Women’s World Open Squash
2009, which takes place next year in Amsterdam from September 20-27,
while their male compatriots compete for wildcards into the Dutch
Open Squash 2009.
The first two editions of the Squash Hillegom Flowerbulb Open were
won by Dutch players. Annelize Naudé triumphed in 2006, while
Karen Kronemeyer took the top spot in last year’s event.
