In the German National
Championships held in Duisburg over the weekend 27-29 January,
Simon Baker and Katharina Witt both triumphed in the
finals to collect their first National Titles.
Australian-born Baker took on Jens Schoor, 14 years his junior,
while Witt beat defending champion and hot favourite Karen Beriere.
"I was strong favourite, which put me under a lot of pressure, but
I'm really glad to win," said Baker. "It was so important that I won
the second game, otherwise it would have become very difficult."
