New man at the helm
in Germany 2007
From the 1st January 2007 the DSQV German Squash Federation shall
have a new National Coach.
Oliver
Pettke (formally Kowalski) shall be taking over at the helm
replacing Barry Dodson after just two years. Oliver who has been
capped twice as a junior and 8 times as a senior player achieved his
best PSA ranking in 1997 of 63.
He is currently studying to become an “A Coach” which is the second
highest coaching certificate in Germany. The last three years he has
been working as manager of Sport-Treff Mülheim where the World Games
took place last in 2005 and where many National Junior and Senior
Tournaments have taken place. The one time National Champion in
millennium year 2000 and twice U19 Champion 1993/4, is shortly to
become only the third National Coach that Germany has ever had
following the two years 2005/6 of Barry Dodson and 1985 – 2004
Manfred Herwig.
The outgoing coach Barry Dodson has in his almost three years
as National Junior Coach and two years as National Coach seen ever
improving performances and results; Culminating in 2006 at the five
Major European Junior Events with four Championship titles and a
bronze medal position. Also at the senior European Championships
both the men and ladies managed to repeat the same results as in
2002 in Boblingen, Germany. The men finished a very creditable sixth
place the ladies were able to climb back on to the podium to collect
their bronze medals. In his final event as National Coach (already
reported on squashsite) at the WJMC in New Zealand his team was
once again blessed with a super result.
Simon Rosner finished his junior career with a super fifth
place in individual event and led the team onto fifth in the team
event. This was once again a best showing for Germany at a WMJC.
With a final bronze medal at the Senior World Championships over 35
for Matthias Scholl who trains regularly in Barry’s squads the year
was complete!
Barry
wishes the DSQV and new National Coach Oliver Pettke all the best
for the future and hopes the are able to continue the work from the
bottom up; top class juniors being brought through into top class
seniors. What Barry shall be doing next is currently unknown but
after such a successful year maybe first a short break and then back
to making courtmonsters: see
