More news from Germany |

Ladies Tournament = Damen:
In the semis it came down to Kathrin Rohrmueller (GRL1)
against the ever improving 17 year old Astrid Kern, and 38
year old Simone Korell (GRL6) against Sandra Kruger.
Both the older player were able to show more experience and strength
to go through into the final with 3/0 victories.
In the final a greatly improved on speed and movement Simone Korell
went into a 2/0 lead 10/9, 9/5 not playing a single unforced error
in the second game. In the third Kathrin upped the pace and as
Simone tried in vain to go for quick points the game went clearly
9/0 against her.
The fourth - and ultimately decisive - game was full of hard fought
and very well played rallies where both ladies could have and should
have won it, but it was with a score line of 10/8 it was Kathrin
that could leave the court the happier. In the fifth the fight and
belief had left Simone and she went down 9/2 very quickly playing
almost only errors at the end.
An excellent match for both players to finish a very relaxed
weekend, where until the final neither had lost a single game.

Men’s A Tournament = Herren A:
There were no surprises as Stefan Leifels (GRL2) against
Tim Weber and Jens Schoor against Johannes Voit
reached the Men’s semi-finals as seeded, but in contrast to the
ladies here youth would have its day.
Stefan, only just back on the court after suffering a very serious
injury to his right (non-playing) hand, looked a little off form and
was not able to stop 19 year old Tim from scoring an 11/9, 11/6,
9/11 13/11 victory.
19-yeat-old Jens was able to control the proceedings and with a
score line of 12/10, 6/11, 11/9, 11/6 stopped Johannes in his tracks
to the final where he played and beat Stefan in 2005.
In the Final Tim started with four mistakes, Jens steady and with
pressure but although he lead right until the end, finally he was
forced to concede the first game in the tie-break. The second was
very close from start to finish with Tim once again the victor, the
third saw Jens come out quick and clean where he hit many winners,
built up a strong lead and ran out clear winner.
The fourth and final game started at such a pace with both players
attacking and retrieving at the very highest level. Tim grew from
strength to strength and Jens hitting more and more mistakes lost
his faith, determination, fight and the match.
This victory - 13/11, 11/9, 6/11 11/8 - gave Tim his first ever
victory at senior national ranking tournaments and is sure not to be
his last. For Jens, once again a good second place for a player who
is still looking for his first title at this level.

Men’s
B Tournament = Herren B:
In the B event an ex pupil and now rapidly improving new pupil
Anders Kroscky beat the 16 year old national player Florian
Silbernagl 3/0 in the final. Florian, who also has just returned
from a nasty leg injury which had put him out for the last two
months, showed signs of being back.
