KALAITZIS , THE GREEK GOD Sixth National title for Fabian
The Greek Nationals ended in style with Fabian Kalaitzis
gaining his sixth title after his win over Petros Tzamaloukas, the
National champion in 2003, 9/7 9/6 9/2 in 40 minutes.
The full gallery was waiting for an epic match between the two
leading players and they didn’t let them down. Petros started well
leading 7/3 in the first game after astonishing shots, missed a close
one for game ball, before Fabian levelled and took the first game.
In the second there was a battle point to point until 4 all, Petros
took the lead 5/4 with a nice nick backhand drop but Fabian again
prevailed also winning the second game. In third both tired but Kalaitzis, more accurate and less tired, led from the beginning till
the end with Petros giving his best effort but it wasn’t enough.
And Fourth for Zeta
In the women’s final
Zeta Tzamalouka beat Eliza Kargioti for her
forth title after an interesting to watch match. The final score was
9/7 9/4 9/1 with Zeta showing her attacking abilities from the first
point.
They both started nervously with Zeta having the lead in all games. The first game ended after a close battle between the two girls. In the second Zeta played remarkably well with Eliza getting
tired.
The third and last was a monologue of Zeta. She is very fit at the
moment and she plays for French team Val De Reiul while Eliza is
improved a lot since last year and we look forward welcoming a
women’s team at the European Team Championships 2006 in Vienna after
many years absence.
The night ended with the prize giving ceremony with trophies given
from Minister of Economics Mr Petros Doukas, a fan of squash and
a player himself.
