Second WISPA title
in a row for Kronemeyer
Tommy Berden reports
Karen Kronemeyer emerged victorious during the Squash Hillegom Flowerbulb
Open 2007, stretching her unbeaten run on the WISPA Tour to 8 matches and
2 tournaments. A month ago Kronemeyer also proved the strongest during the
Didacticum Rotterdam Open 2007. In today’s final the former Australian got
off to a good start against Vicky Hynes taking the first game 9-4.
The English girl however fought back, levelling the match: 3-9. From that
point onwards Kronemeyer started controlling the T, racing to a 2-1 and
8-2 lead. Hynes was not to be denied though, staging a mini comeback to
come within two points of her opponent, saving four match balls in the
process.
The third seeded Dutch girl finally capitalized on her fifth attempt to
close out the match, much to the delight of the vocal home crowd. A
successful tournament ended with a worthy final and a great champion! |

A
Dutch affair and England v Czech in Flowerbulb semis
Tommy Berden reports
Lucie
Fialova and Vicky Hynes will contest the first semi final later today of
the Squash Hillegom Flowerbulb Open 2007. Hynes started proceedings today
with a surprise straight games victory over second seeded Milja Dorenbos.
The English girl dominated play from the outset, but had to fight back
from 4-7 down in the third game to clinch the first semi final spot in the
WISPA Tour 4 event in Hillegom. Hynes will face 19-year old Fialova, after
the Czech player squeezed through in a tight match against Milou van der
Heijden, the Dutch junior champion U17 and U19.
In the top half of the draw local favourite Orla Noom had to come back
from 1-2 down against Eun Chan Ahn, a 21-year old Korean. The top seed
held her nerve in the fourth game, before romping home in the decider. Her
opponent in today’s semi will be compatriot Karen Kronemeyer, a former
Aussie, who controlled her match against Emma Chorley (7) from start to
finish.
An intriguing Dutch clash is coming up ...

both the first and second game with narrow margins: 9-7, 10-8, 9-4.
The former Aussie, now representing the Netherlands, moves into her second
consecutive final, after clinching the Didacticum Rotterdam Open 2007 at
the beginning of November.
Her opponent in the Flowerbulb final will be another 26-year old, Vicky
Hynes from England, who ended the giant killing run of Lucie Fialova from

14-Dec, Round One:
Ahn &
Fialova gatecrash Flowerbulb Open Quarters
Tommy Berden reports
Eun Chan Ahn and Lucie Fialova upset the seeding during the Squash
Hillegom Flowerbulb Open 2007 in the Netherlands.
The
21-year old Korean, currently ranked 179 in the world, only needed three
games to dispatch Lotte Eriksen (8) from Norway. Ahn will now face the
event’s favorite Orla Noom who eased past Laura Alonso Perez from Spain,
dropping only six points in the process. Fialova shocked the home crowd
with a four game win over Dagmar Vermeulen, ranked fourth in the WISPA
Tour 4 event in the city of Hillegom.
The 19-year old Czech girl will meet another Dutch player, Milou van der
Heijden, in tomorrow’s quarter final. The 16-year old citizen of
Valkenswaard, Dutch junior champion U17 and U19, beat compatriot Melissa
Meulenbelt in a tense match. The third quarter final features Karen
Kronemeyer (3) and Emma Chorley (7).
Kronemeyer only needed 7 minutes to ease past Slovakian Linda Hruzikova,
who retired at the end of the second game with a leg injury. Chorley beat
Squash Hillegom’s club champion Patricia van Geest, a late minute
replacement for Fiona Moverley, who withdrew due to illness at the start
of the tournament.
Second seeded Milja Dorenbos will take on Vicky Hynes (6) in the last
quarter final. Dorenbos beat English junior Katherine Quarterman in
straight games.
