It's
Golan and Perry in Dublin
Maive Ennis reports

Madeline Perry,
the
number
one
seed,
successfully defended her Cannon Kirk Irish Open title with a convincing win over
number two seed, Laura
Lengthorn of
England.
Perry began the match
tentatively going 7/4 down in the opening set, Perry upped the pace
and never looked back and raced on to a 3/0 victory. Perry, now
ranked 9 in the world rankings has gone to a different level and one can
see her going even further in the next year in world rankings.
Her speed
about the court, her deadly nick shots especially when she is in front of
the court, make her a daunting opponent.
The Women’s World Championships
in
Belfast in November this year
will provide a great opportunity for Madeline to shine in front of a home
crowd and is something to relish.
Borja Golan
has won 13 of the
14
finals he has contested and was a red hot favourite for today’s game. He
had beaten Bianchetti on 3 of the last 4 outings and most recently in the
Italian Open in November.
Golan appeared the
fresher of the 2 and took the first set 11/5. In the second Bianchetti
found his rhythm and managed to take a 10/6 lead, Golan came back
to make it 10-10 but finally lost that set on a tie-breaker..
A re-focused Golan
stormed to a 2/1 lead,
taking the third set 11/2.
The fourth game was a point by
point contest. Golan took a 10-9 lead with a timely executed drop
and took the match on his first attempt forcing a conduct point from
Bianchetti. |

01-Apr, Semis:
Semi Finals in Dublin
Maive Ennis reports
After two
very contrasting semi finals we now know the line up for the ladies final
on Sunday.
Top seed Madeline Perry made short
work of France's Isabelle Stoehr, dropping just four points as she won
9/2, 9/1, 9/1 in 28 minutes, while Laura Lenghorn came through in
five over
Annelize Naude, twice coming from behind to secure her place in the final.
Marathon Men's Semis
In two marathon men's semi-finals top seed Renan Lavigne had a 2-0
lead against David Bianchetti, but the Italian fought back, levelling and
then taking the decider on a tie-break after 110 minutes to celebrate his
11th appearance in a PSA Tour final.
Second seed Simon Parke also fell, to young Spaniard Borja Golan
fresh from victory in last week's Thessaloniki Open in Greece who also
needed to come back from behind twice before completing his 88-minute
victory on a tie-break in the fifth.
The 23-year-old from Santiago boasts a remarkable record in PSA Tour
finals – having won all but one of the 12 he has appeared in since May
2002.
31-Mar, Quarters:
Day of Drama in Dublin
Maive Ennis reports
A day of drama at the Cannon
Kirk Irish Squash Open in Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club. Top seed and
defending champion Madeline Perry went through to the to semi-final as her
opponent, Dominique Lloyd- Walter withdrew through illness.
Perry faces France's Isabelle Stoehr for a place in the final after the
French number one ended the qualifying run of New Zealand's Jaclyn Hawkes,
while in the bottom half Annelize Naude meets second seed Laura Lengthorn
of England.
In
the men's event Ireland's Liam Kenny put up a valiant fight against the
talented Italian, Davide Bianchetti, the number 3 seed. Bianchetti won the
first game comfortably; Kenny played an impressive second game to come
back from 5/4 down to take the second set 11/6. a closely contested third
set left Bianchetti ahead 2/1, he rounded off the fourth set to win 3/1
and set up a meeting with top seed Renan Lavigne, who cruised past
England's Lee Drew.
Second seed Simon Parke meets young Spaniard Borja Golan for a place in
the final. 30-Mar-06:
Seeds Fall in First Round...
The first round saw some very keen
competition from three players who came through qualifying.
New Zealander Jaclyn Hawkes had a well earned win over 7th seed
sharon Wee, storming to a 2 game lead before Wee fought back to win the
3rd and look like taking the 4th but 2 strokes upset her concentration and
allowed Hawkes to clinch it 9/7.
Mark Krajcsak of Hungary had a suprise
win over 5th seed Ben garner of England. Krajcsak looks like making
an impact on the world scene if he carries on with performances like
today.
Qualifier Lee Drew had a
sensational victory over 7th seed Stacey Ross in a match lasting 70
minutes. Top seeds Renan Lavigne, Simon Parke,
Davide Bianchetti and Borja Gorlan all negotiated the first
round as did Madeline Perry and Laura Lenghorn in the
ladies. 29-Mar: Qualifying Finals
Blake loses out in Dublin
Maive Ennis reports
Irish women’s number 2 and world ranked 63 Aisling Blake lost a
closely contested five game match to Tricia Chuah of Malaysia, Blake
led 2/1 but in the end lost in a 60-minute marathon.
Manuela Manetta of Italy won an even longer marathon match
against Alana Miller of Canada. Chuah and Manetta now go through to
the main draw, which starts tomorrow at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis
Club.
Madeline Perry, the world number nine and number one seed begins the
defence of her title against qualifier Tricia Chuah. Irish interest
in the men’s draw will focus on Irish number one and world number 43
Liam Kenny, seeded six, who plays qualifier Tom Richards of England.
Arthur Gaskin, ranked 137 in the world has drawn England's number
two seed and former world number 4, Simon Parke. 06-Mar-06:
