Edgbaston Priory - Assistant Squash Pro

The Edgbaston Priory Club is one of the most prestigious Squash clubs in England and has a proud tradition within the game. Historically the club played a leading role in the development of the game up to international standards, and over the years has hosted many major national and international tournaments including the British Open. Currently the club has 10 squash courts, including two that offer excellent viewing facilities for tournament and exhibition play and it has a thriving Squash and Racketball scene of around 550 active playing members.

The University of Birmingham is currently the leading H.E institution for Squash in Great Britain and it can boast a formidable list of recent achievements. Its teams have won the BUSA Team Championships for the past five seasons; it has run a successful Premier Squash League team that has reached the semi-final play offs in both of the last two seasons. It has seven courts including three exhibition show courts, and currently has approximately 220 active members.

Recently these two institutions have begun to merge their two squash programmes with the ultimate aim of establishing a Performance Centre for squash in the Midlands. As a consequence of this merger and the development strategy that has now been put in place, an opportunity has been created for a self-employed individual to come and join the existing coaching team in a newly created position of Assistant Squash Professional.

Ideally the successful candidate will demonstrate an excellent playing and coaching ability, and will be capable of working with a broad range of players from adult and junior beginners to the elite athletes who study and train at the university. Although this position will ultimately require participation in all aspects of the current squash programme across both sites it should be stressed that particular emphasis will be placed on the delivery of squash at EPC, and it is important that the successful candidate will be very active in the development of teams, ladders, tournaments and social events etc at the club.

All interested candidates should e-mail a copy of their C.V. along with a covering letter outlining their interest and achievements to Jonathan Tate (j.tate@bham.ac.uk ) by Friday 9th May 08.
