The setting in the Berjaya Times Square was great. It has been many years since a tournament was held in such a public arena. However, having only one court means a very log day for us, with eight matches to run. For the publicity of the sport, this is something well worth the time and effort.

It is also the first time since the Commonwealth Games in 1998 that the audience had to pay for a seat in the arena. Sadly, many still preferred to hang around the balconies for a free viewing that fork out a meagre sum of RM20 (equivalent to GBP3) for 8 hours of world level squash.

Nicol aims for Repeat Performance ...


Competing at home for the first time since she became world champion and world number one, Nicol David will be aiming to retain the KL Open title she won last year - her third successive victory in the event - and the start of a spectacular run of success that propelled the diminutive 'Duracell Bunny' to the top of the game.

She faces tough challenges though, with all the world's best here, and her conqueror in Greenwich and predecessor as world champion and number one, Vanessa Atkinson, awaiting in the final if all goes to seeding ...
 


Top Malaysians Set To Clash

In the men's event local favourites Azlan Iskandar and Ong Beng Hee are seeded to renew their rivalry for the Malaysian number one spot in Sunday's final.

Quarter-finals onward will be staged on the glass court in KL's Berjaya Times Square.
