Power at the LAAC - Thu 11th Dec 2008
Jonathon Power – AKA “The Wizard,” is set to make  a special appearance at The Los Angeles Athletic Club on Thursday, December 11th.

Carrying on Bob Hanscom’s 15-year tradition of bringing the best squash players in the world to The Los Angeles Athletic Club, newly appointed LAAC squash professional Stefan Casteleyn has invited former world #1 Jonathon Power to the club for the first “Winter Squash Challenge”, presented by Feather Racket Sports USA.

In addition to a pro exhibition match between these two world-class players, the event will feature (for a select number of patrons) a one and a half hour clinic, which will focus on movement, ball striking, deception and strategy. Patrons will also be an opportunity to play the pros one game in a round-robin format – and a social featuring complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks.

The event is being presented to the Southern California squash-playing community in celebration of Stefan’s appointment as Head Pro at LAAC following Bob's retirement, and will present them with an opportunity of learning about the fantastic facilities and programs that the LAAC has to offer.

Limited general seating for the pro exhibition match will be available, with a special guest Master of Ceremonies – television, silver screen actress and squash player…Margarita Franco presiding.

Reservations for this special event can be made by contacting Stefan Casteleyn at 213-630-5238 or e-mailing Stefan.Casteleyn@laac.net.

Feather delighted by
Casteleyn appointment

In June of 2008, when Feather Sports-sponsored Squash Professional Bob Hanscom announced his retirement from his 15-year position as Head Pro at The Los Angeles Athletic Club, he said he hoped the position would be filled by someone who would in- fact…"continue to promote the game..." - and alas, the Feather Sports tradition will continue in its second generation of supporting and promoting squash at The LAAC!

The position has been filled by still another Feather Sports player, former World #7 and 13-time Belgian National Champion Stefan Casteleyn. Since moving to Southern California ten years ago, Stefan has been playing, coaching and promoting squash in the greater Los Angeles area. This will be - and provide a "natural fit" as Head Pro at The LAAC. Stefan said, "As long as I've lived here, it's the position I've dreamed of having."

Dr. M.H. Moustafa
, President and CEO of Feather Sports, USA said… "When Feather was first introduced in 1998, Bob asked me if I would sponsor his first refereeing seminar. I did not hesitate a second to be the event's underwriter! Since that day, I've considered The Los Angeles Athletic Club to be the "home" of Feather Sports – formally introducing the Feather brand to the world!" Since that time, Feather has sponsored numerous local, national and international events at The LAAC.

To name a few - The Club hosted the 1998 William E. Simon & Sons USSRA National Championships, which Feather co-sponsored; since 1999 Feather has been the official racket of the Epstein Becker & Green and CB Richard Ellis Investors championship events; in addition, Feather has been the co-sponsor and/or underwriter of exhibitions and invitational events featuring some of the top players in the world like Peter Nicol, Jonathon Power, John White, Nicol David, Rachael Grinham, Vanessa Atkinson, Natalie Grainger - and many other national and international PSA and WISPA players.

In addition to Stefan, note-worthy players who are currently or former Feather-sponsored players include: Spaniard Borja Golan; Colombian Junior Champion Juan Castilla, Mexican National Champion Eric Galvez; World Junior Champion from Egypt, Raneem El Weleily; Canadian Junior Champion Sally Norgate; five-time Israeli National Champion Ronen Goldberg; and 2008 British Open Junior Champions from Egypt, Karim Ali Fathi in the under 15's and Karim Sami in the under 17's – a truly outstanding representation of national and international players.

For the future, Feather Sports will be offering domestic as well as international entrepreneur business partnerships! This will give Feather an opportunity to be more visible internationally.
