World stars head for Rhos-on-Sea
International
women squash players will be descending on Rhos on Sea at the
beginning of December to play in the World ranking event sponsored
by SiteQuest. There are players flying in from all over the
world – South Africa, Israel, Norway, Russia, Netherlands, Slovakia,
Italy, as well as the home nations.
Attempting to qualify are the two 14 year old girls from Le Sport,
Emily Whitlock (European and England no.1 U15) and Hannah
Williams (Wales no. 1 and European no.5 U15). The two junior
players are playing in their first WISPA event and it will be
difficult for them to make the main draw, having to go through two
rounds of qualifying matches, just to get into the first round of
the main event.
The
tournament organiser Phil Whitlock (former World No. 8) said
“It was fantastic of Bob Blackwell, of SiteQuest, to agree to
sponsor the event. It is always difficult to secure sponsorship for
“minority” sports and to be able to bring world ranked squash
players to the county of Conwy is great for the area and for the
sport of squash. It is also an unbelievable opportunity for our
junior girls to play against world ranked players. Also we are
hoping that the Sports Council for Wales will Sportmatch the
sponsorship so that we can put on an extensive squash development
programme for juniors and adults from the area. The community should
really benefit from SiteQuest’s generous sponsorship.”
The local community has already benefitted hugely from support from
SiteQuest – they donated £10,000 to refurbish the Mochdre Village
Hall and have set up a new training initiative for Mochdre Junior
Football Club. On a business level, SiteQuest is currently
developing a 30 acre site in Mochdre and it is hoped that the
“Mochdre Commerce Parc” will create more than 400 jobs and attract
many well-known businesses to the commercial units being built
there. However they are also keen to sponsor sport, particularly
where it helps the development of local juniors. The WISPA
tournament organiser, Phil Whitlock is grateful to have such an
enthusiastic and generous sponsor.
Everyone is welcome and there is no charge to watch the matches.
Those who are not members of Le Sport just need to register at the
club reception on arrival. Schools/Colleges are welcome to bring
pupils to see world class sport in action.

2007 PSA Event
SPORTS MATCH
The Sports
Council for Wales have contributed $4000 under the Sports Match
scheme, so we will be putting our coaches on
additional courses to further qualify them. We are also running a
schools programme with Ysgol Bryn Elian (Emily Whitlock's High
School) and running a
community coaching scheme ... |
