15-Apr-07, Final:
Tennant & Mylotte
Triumph in Malmo
Michael Bische reports
The women's final got of to a great start with both players
attacking the ball very early and Kirsty got some pressure on the
no.1 seed in both the first and second but just couldn’t finish it
of properly and never came back from it in the third to give
Laura Mylotte the title.
The all-French final was a good final
where Romain Tennant took both first and second
games pretty comfortable and it looked like Joan wouldn't come back
at all after two marathon matches in a row, both over 80 min long, but
Joan came back strongly and made Romain do some hard work on the
court, but in the fifth, there just wasn't any strength left in
Joan's legs or mind.
But Joan was happy with his performance and
getting to his first PSA final. |

All-French Final in Malmo
Michael Bische reports
It will be an all-French final in the men’s event of Malmö Open,
between 4th seed Joan Lezaud and second seed Romain Tennant.
Lezaud battled once again trough a five gamer beating no1 seed Yann
Perrin, opening the match pretty strong and had a 2-0 lead with Yann
making some unforced errors while Lezaud was playing under pressure
but Yann took the next two games and tying up the match to two all.
Once again a 5th and deciding game was played, and Lezaud was
physically strong enough and got the best out of it with a 11-6 win
in the decider.
Tenant could comfortably after 30 minutes of match play take his
spot in the final after winning over Jethro Binns. Jethro never got
into the game, losing the first two pretty quickly, caught up in the
third but the Welshman didn’t do enough damage to disturb Romain's
game play and it was 11-8 in the third to the Frenchman.
Top seeds Laura Mylotte and Kirsty McPhee face off in
the finals tomorrow after good results in the semifinals. The first
and second game between Mylotte and Deon Saffery were too close
calls which were shared, one 10-8 each.
Good rallies with some nice
finishing shots was delivered from both players but Laura got the
best out of Deon and in the end finished it off in four games.
McPhee put out the Scandinavian hope for a place in the final Lotte
Eriksen, after winning in three games, but after long rallies and
hard work from both players. |
