Malmo Open 2008
Malmo, Sweden, 27-30 Mar, $4k
30-Mar, Final:
More Swedish Success for Sarah
Michael Bische reports

Having already collected the Swedish Open title in Linkoping last month, England's Sarah Kippax scored more Swedish success as she beat top seed Tricia Chuah in straight games in the final of the Malmo Cup.

The final started off to Tricia's advantage with good length as she kept pushing the Englishwoman back to earn a 6-1 lead but Sarah came back pretty strong and won nine straight points in a row to take the first game.

The second game was a a quick one where easy unforced errors came off Tricia's racket and Sarah kept playing solid throughout the game to win 9-0. The third started just like the the previous one and a quick lead of 5-0 put Sarah in command, she never let it go and won the last game easily and with it the title of the Malmö Open 2008.

The win marks Sarah's fourth career win but, along with the Swiss title she collected earlier this month, her third in just six weeks!

"I am of course delighted with my win, I seem to play well over here in Sweden!

"I felt that I played consistently well throughout the tournament and managed to continue my good form into the final. I was worried when Tricia started so strongly and took a big lead in the first game, luckily I was able to compose myself and up the pressure, by getting onto the ball earlier and playing with more urgency. We had a good battle and I am delighted to have come out on top.

"I have had a lovely time in Malmo, I was lucky to be staying with some great family friends, and also having my parents there to support me for the first time overseas. It was great to win and make it three in a row!"

Top two reach Malmo final

Top seeds Tricia Chuah and Sarah Kippax will contest the final of the Malmo Cup after both won their semi-finals in straight games.

It was even start to the first semi-final, but second seed Sarah Kippax was winning most of the points against Celia Allamargot. The Englishwoman looked stronger throughout, an despite a spirited effort by the Frenchwoman Kippax always seemed to have an answer.

Chuah was in charge throughout her match with Georgina Stoker, who made valiant efforts in the third but couldn't finish off the important points.

28-Mar, Quarters:
Top four through in Malmo

Day two of the Malmo Open saw the top seeds progress to the semi-finals, with second-ranked Sarah Kippax the only one of the four to drop a game, against fellow-Englishwoman Vicky Hynes. Kippax, winner of the Swedish Open in February, now faces France's fourth seed Celia Allamargot, who also won a 'local derby' as she beat compatriot Soraya Renai.

A second all-English clash saw third seed Georgina Stoker beat Lauren Selby, and she now meets Malaysia's  top seed Tricia Chuah, who ended home interest by beating Anna Detter, the only unseeded player in the quarter-finals.
