REPORTS
03-Feb, First Round:
Razik falls at the
first hurdle
In a dramatic opening round
match in the ADL Optical/Rodenstock Manitoba Open
in Manitoba, Canada's defending champion and top seed Shahier Razik
was halted by Switzerland's unseeded Lars Harms in a 105-minute
marathon encounter.
The Basel-born
Harms beat the title-holder 3-11 11-9 11-9
10-11 11-10 and will now face a qualifier, Ian Power,
another Canadian from Montreal, in a bid to reach the semi-finals.
Power also pulled off a significant upset when he beat Bermuda's
eighth seed Nicholas Kyme 11-10 11-8 11-7 in 70 minutes.
Frenchman Stéphane Galifi confirmed his third seeding by defeating the
up and coming Shaun De Lierre.
The early-year PSA circuit
continues it progress through North America, with the Mantoba Open in
Winnipeg.
Defending champion Shahier Razik tops the seedings, and with
Matthew Giuffre and Shawn De Lierre also in the draw hopes
for a repeat home victory will be high.
"I haven't done too badly here," Razik, who
will be playing his sixth Manitoba Open,
said after last year's victory.
"I've always made
it to the semis or quarters. This is the first time I won."
