National Schools Finals 2008
12/13 March, Manchester

Three out of four
for Millfield ...

Marwan El Shorbagy reports from Manchester…

The final was really amazing in the boys under 19, Millfield against Wycliffe, Millfield won 4/1 and claim the title for the sixth time in a row and the eleventh time in total.

Boys Under 19 final:

Millfield 4-1 Wycliffe

   1) Mohamed El Shorbagy bt Anthony Graham        9/4 9/5 9/8
   2) Petr Martin bt Robbie Maycock                          9/2 9/0 9/0
   3) Marwan El Shorbagy bt Ben Rodgers  6/9 9/1 9/6 8/10 10/8
   4)Charles Charpes bt Sam Cantle                   9/0 9/2 6/9 9/2
5)Khalid Haji lost to Adam Wellslead                      0/9 0/91/9

Mohamed El Shorbagy played Graham last year and he beat him and maybe it was the same score, Mohamed started well volleying, controlling the T and Graham was just running, but in the last game Graham surprised El Shorbagy with some shots and El Shorbagy was helping him with some mistakes. At 8/3 to Graham,  El Shorbagy back strongly to win the match without changing the serve.

I am very happy to win the School Nationals for the second time and I would like to thanks Jonah and Ian, we have a strong team with Petr, Marwan, Charles and Khalid and I hope that we can win it next year. And finally I would like to thank the School.

The second Match Petr Martin from Czech Rep. and captain of the team was playing with Robbie. This was the last and the fifth national school match for Petr Martin so he did his best, played very well he didn't give Robbie the chance to play. Petr is now going to the European Champion and he is looking for a good result.

"I am happy to play my fifth national school champion and my last as well, I would like to thanks England Squash and the Organization," Petr said.

The Third Match was me with Ben Rodgers, I think it was the best and the longest match of the day, the match was 85minutes and it was really amazing.

First game I was up 6/3 then I lost 9/6 then the second and the third I was controlling the game with some good shots, then 2/1 games to me and 8/5 I lost my concentration and he played some very nice shots and he back strongly to win the game 10/8.

The final game was the same story I was leading 8/4 then he went back to 8 all and we had lots of changing serves and we both got tired, then I played boast and drop shot to finish the match 10/8.

I would like to thank Jonah and Ian for coming and I would like to thank the school and I hope to win it a again next year.

The fourth was Charles and Sam Cantle, it was quite quick this match, Charles was controlling the first two games very easy, then he lost his concentration in the third as the same was doing some good shots.

The Fourth game Charles was controlling the T and he finished the match with two nicks in a row.

And the fifth match was quite quick as Khales was a bit tired from the semi finals matches and Adam was just controlling the play

And with this result Millfield won it for the sixth time in a row.

Girls Under 19 final:

Millfield 5-0 Central Newcastle

  1) Klara Janoskova bt Kimber Lemtlang         9/2 5/1 rtd.

  4)Macy Coltman bt Sophie – Bea Wylde        9/0 9/1 9/2

Today Millfield bt Central Newcastle 3/2 in the girls under 15, all the matches were very tough and the last match finished 3/2

And in the Under 15 boys Wycliffe have won the final against CTS Grammar 4/1, Wycliffe have very good juniors players and I think they are looking now towards the Under 19 title.

Wycliffe have Anthony Graham, Roby Maycock, Ben Rodgers and Sam Cantle, and this time it will be a very tough competition.

But in the same way Millfield have a strong team, Mohamed El Shorbagy British Junior Open Champion and who has just arrived from the Canary Wharf Classic with a good result, and Petr Martin the captain of the Czech team and this will be his fifth national school finals and he won all his matches 3/0 until now. After his match he will go to the European Championships. The remainder of the team is Marwan El Shorbagy, Charles Sharpes and Khalid Haji.

Last year we beat Wycliffe 4/1 and year before 3/2 so it's always tough.
