National Cup for DL Aspley
Todd McQuilkin reports
David Lloyd (Aspley) Premier squash team were crowned National Cup
Champions on Saturday night by beating Hazelwood squash club from
Middlesex in the final of the England Squash National Cup finals
played at the Park, Nottingham.
An unprecedented treble was achieved with a 3-2 win in a fiercely
competitive final with Jonny Underhill winning the final rubber 3-2
in what can only be described as the perfect finish to a perfect
season.
Earlier in the day David Lloyd won their semi final 5-0 against
Wycliffe College from Gloucestershire however they still went into
the final as firm underdogs. Once again in the final the team showed
why they are so hard to beat by playing some exceptional squash
under intense pressure.
"We
still can’t believe what we have achieved; it is amazing that in
three years since we put this team together we have managed to do
what no other team has ever done before.
"Having completed the double last season by winning the
Nottinghamshire Premier League and County Cup we have now gone one
better this year by winning all three competitions.
"This is also a great result for Nottinghamshire squash as it is the
first time a team from Nottinghamshire has won this competition; it
puts the Premier league firmly on the map. Next season we expect the
chasing pack to strengthen their squads which can only be good for
the region's squash."
