AND SO TO THE FINAL ...
Man/Pont manager Taro Nabetani knows his team are favourites, but the line-ups for the final give him pause for thought ...

Having finished first in the Northern league and then winning both legs of the semi final play offs, it would seem that Manchester/Pontefract would be favourites for the National League title at Nottingham on Tuesday 24th Mat.  However, a look down the probable line ups would show just how tight the final is likely to be

Jenny Duncalf v Shelley Kitchen
Our new signing Jenny has had a successful debut season having only lost once, to the National Champion Linda Elriani.  Jenny managed to beat Shelley during the season but it was a very tough and long match.  This will be a great tie to watch and Jenny needs to be at her best to match the New Zealander’s pace.

Nick Taylor v Mark Cairns
The two senior players in their respective teams will play against each other once again following a number of encounters over the past years.  Mark’s consistency and accuracy against Nick’s mobility and attacking tactics are the factors in this tie. With both men retired from the PSA circuit and coaching full time it will be interesting to see who is in the better shape.

Marcus Berrett v Scott Handley
With the ranking position and experience it should be Marcus who wins this encounter most times.  However, the Halifax professional has a poor record against Scott whose delay shot skills often trouble Marcus.  The head to head is one all this season with a home victory each for both players – This one is just too close to call.

James Willstrop v Alex Gough
The young and up coming James has broken into world top 10 and has had a good season after having only lost two first string matches while the Welsh No1 has struggled to keep his form with injuries.  However, Alex always plays well against the Yorkshireman so James’ shot playing will be tested to the full by Alex’s precision placements and athletic retrieving. – expect another close match!

Lee Beachill v Anthony Ricketts
Both teams would hope to have won the trophy by the time the number ones get on court, but this is the one the crowds want to watch.  Lee made a real breakthrough by reaching World No 1 last year and Anthony has also had a good season after coming back from a series of injuries.  This one will be unpredictable and could provide an epic finale to the night.
