25th July 2006:
Happy Birthday
Nick Matthew !!!
TALL, STRONG AND HANDSOME…

It has to be said that Nick Matthew couldn’t lose, could he, as he was blessed to start with, having Sue and Hedley as parents… Come on, they are just the best, you do know that, don’t you…

He is such a popular young man, Nick is. I’ll never forget when a gorgeous young lady from the Commonwealth organisation came to me and told me “how lucky I was to live in England as it meant that I was able to see Nick Matthew often …”

Yes, the little bugger has grown into such an attractive young man, hasn’t he? A devastating smile, a determined-stubborn-digging my heels in attitude that led him to break Lee Beachill’s untarnished record of never having been beaten from 2/0 up, a fitness close to perfection, some wicked nicks, a complete refusal to find himself excuses when defeated, and there you have him, the Boy from Sheffield.

But most of all, Nick is somebody you want in your corner. He will always be there to help you out, a sort of Mother Hen. He cares, he looks after, he protects… And that’s why so many people absolutely adore the boy, me included…

So, here it is, from us all at SquashSite, all our best wishes on that special day, dear Nick….

Happy birthday, Nick. Je t’aime tout fort…

Nick Matthew is a credit to the game of squash. He joined Duffield’s PSL team in 2003-04 and quickly endeared himself to our supporters.

Nick always gives 100% effort and his hard work and dedication is an example to younger players.

We have seen Nick move up the world ranking as his all round game has improved as he mixes patience with attacking flair.

Three things are worthy of special mention.

On two occasions when he has received a win bonus he has handed this back to buy drinks for the supporters.

On one occasion when he hit a brick wall after the Commonwealth Games and was a bit under par he asked not to be paid.

Finally, when discussing tactics for the PSL Final in May 2006 he simply asked to have the tie standing at two-all when he went on court to play Stewart Boswell and he would guarantee me a victory and the title.

He walked on court standing tall and confident and he put his money where his mouth was to the delight of all our supporters.

Thanks Nick from all at Duffield and have a great birthday.

Happy Birthday Nick - wish you the best for this 26th year

Happy Birthday Nicholaas, I wish I was celebrating with you again this year!

I hope you have a nice day with your family on Tuesday, and a good night with the boys on Saturday.

I am sure we will celebrate before too long. Good luck this year and thanks for all your help, you are a good friend.

Happy birthday Chip, sorry to be missing the party this year, but I'm sure it will be another good do!!

Enjoy your special day!!!

Happy birthday from all at Dunlop Slazenger and wishing you the best of luck for the coming season.

Regards,

Happy birthday Nick.

Being close to Nick for a few years, it was great to see him finally pass his driving test a year or so ago.

As it seems to have taken him longer to pass than was imaginable. I think he had other things on his mind though, like winning the British Nationals, which was an amazing achievement this year.

So happy birthday Nick, to England Squash's British Champion!

Mate, Happy Mate Birthday Mate, Mate, hope you are fresh next time we play Mate.

Love,

Time and tide wait for no man (or woman to be politically correct) and it seems as yesterday that Nick was carving out a successful junior career.

Not quite the best of his age, he has certainly become one of the best seniors in the world and in his 25th year he won the coveted British Championship, the hardest of all national titles to win.

His readiness to adapt and learn have made him a feared opponent at top world levels and his ability to win matches that are seemingly lost marks him as different.

On his 26th birthday he is ready to take on the world, knowing his best days are ahead of him.

He was a finalist in last years Mamut English Open and he will never find a better way to kickstart his 26th year than winning that prestigious title at the famous Crucible in his home town of Sheffield next month.

Happy birthday to him.

Happy birthday Nick, hope you have a great year remember the hard work is paying off and keep up with your approach to the game.

Remember even on your birthday you buy presents for the coach eg iPod!!!!

Have a good day and keep up the no drink policy, like your hero PERFECT PETE

Love

Happy Birthday Nick !!!

Many Happy Returns ...
