Place your bids for the
North American Open Pairings ...
Once again the organisers of the North American Open are using
the tournament to raise money for local charities, with the 'Player
Pair Auction' forming a significant part of that effort.
The rules are listed on the right, but basically you have to bid for
the pair that you think will win the most games in the main draw, to
win some fabulous prizes.
Here's a strictly anonymous form guide to the contenders,
complete with the definitive odds on one of them making the final or
winning the event...

Pair 1. John
White and Ryan Donegan
Final – 1/2 on, Winner - Evens
JOHN WHITE
Known as ‘Whitey’, he is undoubtedly the hardest hitter on tour.
The Bouncing Bow Legged Aussie/Scot is a real showman on court,
using power and sharp angles to expose his opponent's weaknesses.
FORM :Currently is enjoying a return to the top10 in the
twilight of his career. A semi-finalist at the Kuwait Open has the
game’s biggest hitter in tip top form and will keep the punters
happy.
RYAN DONEGAN
A graduate from Dartmouth, Ryan has been on the PSA tour for 4
years. Based in St Louis, he has been slowly climbing the world
rankings, playing mainly in North America.
FORM : Had a two month spell in the paddock. Might pay to
stay there another week!

BUY ME !!!
Player Auction
In this unusual auction, our 16 main draw players will be paired
together. Opening bids for each pair will start at $200. As 100%
of the proceeds will go to our charity, St. John's Educational
Threshold Center of San Francisco, we are hoping the auction
will be lively, and that all eight winning bids will bring in more
than $1,000 each for this worthy cause.
The auction will start on Monday evening at Bay Club Marin,
continue on Tuesday at The San Francisco Bay Club, and end at The
Olympic Club on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
If you make a winning bid, and at the end of the tournament the
pair of players you "own" have won more games as a combined team
than any other pair, then you'll win our first prize.*
For instance if John White wins the tournament (winning all four
of his matches), and his partner Ryan Donnegan, loses his first
match 3-2, then the total for the pair is 14 games. Only main draw
matches count toward the total.
We also have a second prize for our second highest total, and a
third prize for the third highest total.
Come to the early rounds of the tournament, enjoy some fiercely
competitive qualifying matches, and make a generous bid in our
charity auction. To encourage everyone to come along and support
our auction, entrance to the Tuesday evening matches at The San
Francisco Bay Club will now be free of charge.
If you can't make it to the early rounds of our event, but would
like to be involved in the auction and make a bid, contact me at
mallen@sfbayclub.com or 415.901.9335 so we can
arrange for you to participate in the final round at The Olympic
Club by phone.
Good luck and see you at the auction!

Pair 2. Liam
Kenny and Miguel Angel Rodriguez
Final – 20/1, Winner – 40/1
LIAM KENNY
Another of the multi-nationals, Liam is Australian born but
represents Ireland. Ten years touring brings a wealth of
experience. Technically sound and by no means the quickest on
tour, but effective in putting the ball in the right places.
FORM: The Irish No.1 is enjoying his best season on tour to
date. An outside bet for a finals place at best, but even that
might be stretching it.
MIGUEL ANGEL RODRIGUEZ
One of the fresh faces on tour, Miguel hails from Columbia. He
uses his impressive court speed to retrieve almost anything his
opponent throws at him. His fighting qualities have seen him climb
the ranks very quickly and he is one to watch.
FORM: A solid season in 06/07. Might be a little green for
this. Prefer others.

Pair 3. Shahier
Razik and Raj Nanda
Final – 2/1 Winner – 5/1
SHAHIER RAZIK
The two-time (and current) Canadian Champion is a seasoned
campaigner with a tremendous fighting spirit. Famous for enduring
many two-hour matches, Shahir uses deft touch with superb agility
to counter any attack his opponent offers.
FORM: Always a solid place bet. Keep him safe.

|
Pair 4. Shawn
Delierre and Omar Elborolossy
Finals – 40/1, Winner – 80/1
SHAWN DELIERRE
Which Shawn will turn up ... that is the question. The charismatic
Canadian blows hot and cold from week to week on tour. A very
talented and capable young player who can give almost anyone a run
for their money on his day.
FORM: Some encouraging form this season breaking into some
of the top tier events. Could ask some questions if he gets things
right.
OMAR ELBOROLOSSY
Came out of retirement this season after three years off the tour.
The gentle giant from Egypt achieved a career high ranking of 16
so plenty of experience. A master of moving the ball to great
position with maximum efficiency, Omar uses great touch and skill
to move his opponents to defensive positions.
FORM: Battled through many qualification draws this season
so it is hard to gauge true form at this early stage. Could
surprise a few but not in any danger of making it to Saturday.

Pair 5. Azlan
Iskandar and David Phillips
Finals – 2/1, Winner – 5/1
AZLAN ISKANDAR
The Malaysian No.1 is a gritty competitor, working hard in the
points to keep the tempo fast. Very fit and strong, Azlan uses
this pace and power to force the weak returns from his opponent.
Tough attritional squash serves him well and gets the right result
more often than not.
FORM: Been in indifferent form recently after knocking on
the door of the top ten last season. A tremendous fighter, he is
definitely a danger if he can turn around his recent form.
|
|
Pair 6. Eric
Galvez and Chris Walker
Final – 25/1, Winner – 50/1
ERIC GALVEZ
The little Mexican may be small in stature but his heart makes up
for it. A fierce competitor, Eric chases down every ball and
whilst not always pretty he tests his opponents resolve to win the
point several times.
FORM: A winner in Canada this season, Eric is enjoying the
form of his career, but a finals berth maybe too tall for little
Eric in this company.

|
Pair 7. Chris
Simpson and Yasser El Halaby
Finals – 50/1, Winner – 100/1
CHRIS SIMPSON
A former European Junior Champion hailing from England, Chris has
made rapid progress up the PSA Rankings. An exciting young player
to watch, he has a great natural hold on the ball and has already
claimed some big scalps on tour this season.
FORM: May go further than Seeding, but very unlikely to
gain a finals berth.
YASSER EL HALABY
Princeton Graduate originally from Egypt, Yasser is in his second
year back on the Pro tour. Shows all the hallmarks of the Egyptian
squash players, great hands and mixes his game well.
FORM: Won his first pro-tournament this season in the
states. Still finding his feet back amongst the professional ranks
and it may be a bit too soon for a big showing.

|
Pair 8. Adrian
Grant and Wade Johnstone
Final – 6/4, Winner – 2/1
Adrian Grant
The England International has been a consistent performer on the
PSA tour for many years. A steady even tempered player who has a
very balanced controlled game using solid lengths to out-position
his opponent.
FORM: A multiple winner in Pakistan this season. Doesn’t
have too many bad tournaments and should be knocking on the door
of a finals berth. Would surprise few if he added a third title to
the season.
